New DLC character announced for BlazBlue

Download on game's October release.

A new character will be available to download for superb fighting game BlazBlue: Continuum Shift when the game launches this October on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

He's called Valkenhayn R Hellsing, a previously non-playable character in the BlazBlue story mode.

Valkenhayn can transform into a werewolf, making him fast, powerful and agile. But he can't block in wolf form. Is that how it works in Twilight?

He joins Makoto Nanaya on the DLC character list set to go live when the game is released next month.

Continuum Shift, from Japanese developer Arc System Works, is the sequel to BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger. ASW created what many genre fans consider to be the greatest fighting game ever: Guilty Gear.

That's why you should care. But just in case you need a stronger nudge, Matt Edwards reviewed for Eurogamer in August and returned with an 8/10.

    Since its coming out so bloody late in the UK, why not throw in the DLC characters for free to make up for the fact that the Japanese and 'Merkins are about a bajillion times more experienced in this game than we are.

    I didn't even bother getting the first release because it came out 6 months ago... AFTER this one had already been annouched for the rest of the world.

    Wouldn't be BB if it wasn't.

    In all seriousness, I agree with Ranger101. This has been horribly delayed. I nearly bought a PS3 just to import this f'gods sake. They need to get this simultanousely released.

    Oh? So they finally nailed a release date for him? The 3 planned DLC characters have been known for some time already!
    But I echo the statements above. It has been laughable just how long it has taken them to release the game for Europe... Again!! Even the " fan edition" of the game offers little consolation.

    Horribly delayed? No. It would be nice for all regions to get BB as close together as possible. That said, for the sequel, Zen have been able to make this available far quicker, than before, because they recognised that things really were not-much good with the timeliness of the first game. I was concerned that we Europeans would be waiting in to early 2011, for BB sequel, but instead, we're seeing the game a few months after the US, on this one.

    Considering the extra localisation to be done, and traditional lead-times, see (BB:CT)... I don't find it to be that bad of a situation. Zen also appear to have picked up in communication, through the social networking sites and releasing media to keep people informed. One month, and you'll be playing it. :) That's only four behind US players, maybe five behind Japan, on console. Hold on in there, and be ready for the game's arrival.

    How will this work online? Will play be split into those who have it and those who don't, or will they force people who don't want it to download it to play online? Obviously the boss character is on the disc, but are the others.

    I'm curious because I'm half expecting something like this to happen for SSFIV.

    @GrandpaUlrira

    If I'm not mistaken - and I might be - it'll probably work like how Soul Calibur did with their Star Wars DLC. Those who have it can use it, those who don't can just fight against it.
