No more DLC for Alan Wake

The Writer will "conclude things".

There will be no more downloadable content for Alan Wake following The Writer, Remedy boss Matias Myllrinne has said.

Myllrinne told Evil Avatar that The Writer, which is due out before the end of the year, will "conclude things".

Eurogamer's John Teti awarded The Signal, the first episode of DLC for the game, a measured 6/10 when it emerged blinking from the woods back in July.

What? I thought this was going to get lots of episodic content? Hopefully this means Alan Wake 2 or prequel rather than the end of Remedy. MS please keep your exclusive teams and acquire more! This is where you are at a disadvantage in the market.

No, this means that Alan Wake sold like crap and nobody is going to download The Writer so they're not going to bother with more Alan Wake content.

I fear that you are right, Eraser.

Alan Wake promised much but didn't deliver. As an experience it built up to a nonsense, ambigious ending forcing the player to download extra content. This, for me, felt as if the game was never finished in the first place and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay for DLC for Alan Wake regardless of The Signal being "free".

The 7/10 score given for this game ended up being just about right, in the end.

Thought it was superb personally, I hope this gets a sequel, but we'll probably have to make do with "Modern Snorefare 13: Let's Get BUSY!" to keep the great unwashed happy.

I wanted to love Alan Wake, but the repetitive combat really held me back. And the thought of doing it all again in DLC has put me off completely.

Here's to hoping that when Alan Wake 2 comes out ( 6-7 years time) they have realized you don't need shoveled in combat to make a great game.

Such a shame. I loved The Signal to pieces, I really hope this doesn't mean that Alan Wake 2 is on dodgy ground too.

It all went wrong when Alan removed his scarf.

Alan Wake would have been a classic if released some years ago as planned, however the protracted development hurt the title as the mechanics are far less current due to the delay. If it had remained a PC project as first intended it may have done better.

I hope they can manage a sequel as im sure they could work on all the niggles that were consistent in Alan Wake and make the sequel something much more worthy.

I loved Alan Wake. More like 9/10 for me.

I would rather they finished up the dlc now and got to work on a proper sequel.

For me the combat in Alan Wake was and still is fantastically intense and tactical (on "Hard";). No other shooter or meelee game has ever thrown me into such tense fights. I could definitely play a DLC episode every few months without getting bored.

The final piece of music in the game with be Depeche Mode's The Darkest Star (from Playing The Angel) - supposed to hold a lot of meaning to the game.

Well Alan Wake has gone down in price a fair bit, and it doesn't seem like a bad game. I'll give it a try; I'm a fan of games that focus on story.
