F1 2010 Codies' "biggest" release ever

Predicts two million unit global launch.

British publisher Codemasters reckons F1 2010 will be the biggest release in the company's history.

F1 2010, due out on PC (digital download only unless you pre-order), PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, was developed by Codemasters' Birmingham studio using the EGO game technology platform – the same used for the creation of Colin McRae: DiRT 2 and Race Driver: GRID.

"F1 2010... is set to be a two million unit worldwide launch when it races off the starting grid this week," reads a press release sent out today.

"Representing Codemasters' biggest release to date, F1 2010 is now shipping to retail stores in North America and will release across mainland Europe and PAL territories on Thursday 23rd September with a UK street date on Friday 24th September."

Joao Diniz Sanches reviewed for Eurogamer and awarded the racer an impressive 8/10.

Launch trailer is below.

PS3 vs. 360 version comparison soon, EG?

  • ZizouFC #3 2 years ago

PC version digital download only - unless you pre-order?

WTF. I understand it's the future but still... Is getting a disc a pre-order incentive now?

as always I predict the ps3 version gets blurry image like all codemasters games on ps3 (due to edge blur effect), yet the 360 version gets the nice 4X AA effect...disgusting...why they just dont use on ps3 the new anti aliasing technique by the CELL, it is for free in all development kits...sometimes I dont understand how programmers think...they have a lot of free efficient solutions on development kits, yet they dont use them...

Cant wait for this. Got it pre-ordered & shopto have dispatched it :)

Played safe & went for the 360 version.
  • cianchristopher #8 2 years ago

Damn, I guess the power of the cell is just too damn powerful....
  • NotSoSlim #9 2 years ago

360 version will look better but having a G25 swung it the PS3s way. No matter what a wheel is better than the pad.

This should tick me over until 2nd November
  • altitude2k #10 2 years ago

Yep, shopto have dispatched mine also. A 100% time/distance weekend at Singapore might be on the cards!
  • Miths #11 2 years ago

Come on Steam, unlock my game dammit! Thursday is too damn far away - my G25 and I are itching for a workout, and somehow the iRacing and Ferrari F1 Virtual Academy just aren't getting the job done at the moment :).

    >I dont understand how programmers think...they have a lot of free efficient solutions on development kits, yet they dont use them...

The fact that there is no such thing as free lunch might give you a hint.

I know a guy who works for Codemasters in Bimingham, didn't realise this was them. I shall have to give him a pat on the back when I next see him.

"PC version digital download only - unless you pre-order?"

What gives? honestly, why?? I am genuinly confused.

I am fortunate enough to have pre-orderded (anyone interested still can at Shopto.net, only £19.79) NOT a sales pitch but i would hate anyone to lose out. it is also more than £10 cheaper than digital distribution! Now there is a surprise! NOT!
  • BBIAJ #17 2 years ago

Hmmm, I did have mine pre-ordered with ShopTo when it was listed as UK PAL edition, but canceled it once they switched it to UK/EU PAL, with only a 70% chance of getting a UK PAL copy.

They used to let you specify a UK PAL copy only, but with that option now gone, it was a no sale from me.

If I'm buying a game from a UK store, I at least expect it to be solely for my region, otherwise there could be all kinds of potential problems when it comes to DLC, selling it on, or trading it in.

A shame, as ShopTo were bloody cheap as well.

I know that Zavvi were a similar price, but they're not great at getting games to you in time, worse still if a weekend gets in the way.

I went with GameGears in the end, never used them before, so fingers crossed it all works out.

Good to see a Brit dev doing well! More power to Codies, as they are making some good games of late.

    Love F1,
    Love games,
    Looking forward to this.

The game is now either EU or UK on Shopto? Sod em if my one does not get nicked then I am sending it back.

Any alternatives out there for cheap games?
  • IkariW #20 2 years ago

"Good look with the states, Americans don't like formule un"

Its okay, we don't like Champ car...or Nascar... or monster trucks.... each to their own.

I hope they retained the feature from TOCA2 where your team sacked you unless you scored 15 points at each race, regardless of whether you were winning the championship.
  • SpookyTang #22 2 years ago

My copy is on it's way and i'm gonna hammer the Singapore circuit till the weekend is over :p. Oh for argument sake i picked the 360 version as i prefer the pad's trigger's to the Dual Shock's. I'm pretty sure both games will be 99% identical.

"I'll be sticking with GT5, when it comes out.
I just know in my heart of hearts, F1 2010 won't be all that."

But it hasnt been in development for 6 years... ;-D
  • rojjer #24 2 years ago

this article actually made me shit-can my pre-order for this game. Thanks for bringing me to my senses. Don't want to contribute to their £millions.

(I was one of the poor sods that bought Operation Flashpoint: DR)

edit: I see from the negs a lot of codies workers frequent this site, you know who you are ;-P

    @Captain_Birdseye

Okay, you got me... I do kind of like Monster trucks, Big Foot being my all time fav. ;)
Oh and my heart is made of petrol and Carbon fibre. ;)

it's a Shopto love-in! and why not. cheap and quick. mine's dispatched and will be here tomorrow no doubt. i've dusted the wheel off and can't wait
  • sink257 #28 2 years ago

How come every time there is an article about any racing game, people always comment about how it's inferior to GT5? I understand people like to stick with franchises they like, but they could, y'know, get both games?
  • riceNpea #29 2 years ago

eh? what are you talking about? plant? crowd pleasing posts?

if you can't convince them, confuse them eh...
  • riceNpea #30 2 years ago

    aww shucks. now i'm blushing...
  • DrStrangelove #31 2 years ago

Are there so many people interested in F1? It's not like F1 is actually interesting or something like that.
  • jambo74 #32 2 years ago

Sorry CM - After OFDR I will never buy another game from you.
  • secombe #33 2 years ago

    @DrStrangelove

Have you not been watching for the past few seasons? Stuff you would think would be ridiculously inplausible if you saw it in a movie seems to happen on a monthly basis in F1. How Lewis won the Championship in the final few seconds, Jenson's banzai overtaking race in Brazil last season, and the way this season is shaping up is pretty impressive.

Viewing figures would suggest it's pretty darn healthy, and the interest in the games has always been high due to their relative rarity.

@Beano PS3 vs. 360 version comparison soon, EG?

And we all know who's going to ''win'' don't we?

Wish they had released this during the usual early summer game drought though. Can't find the time to fit this into my gaming time at the mo.

"And we all know who's going to ''win'' don't we?"

    Who or which?

For me it's not a question of which version will "win", but how big a difference there is. Most multi-platform titles these days are virtually identical and often just have minor and different advantages and disadvantages, but if the difference is big, I would like to know before deciding on which to get since I have both consoles.
