Massive MAG update incoming

Move support, new credits system and more.

A raft of new content is heading to Sony's online shooter MAG, developer Zipper Interactive has revealed.

The official MAG blog lists Move support, an increased level cap that goes up to 70, a revamped skill tree and "a brand new in-game economy that lets you earn credits to spend on weapons and items from the also-new Supply Depot."

Elsewhere, there's a new Clan Deploy feature that allows clan leaders to queue other clan members into a game. Existing maps, weapons and vehicles are refined, bugs have been patched and there's a MAG news page that informs users of all the latest updates when they log in.

Eurogamer's Simon Parkin awarded the game 7/10 when it launched earlier this year, stating that "MAG breaks impressive new ground".

The MAG 2.0 update will be available within the next four weeks.

may be worth picking this up on the cheap now if it has Move support. worth a £20 punt to give my new sticks a run out on an FPS

Good shout on that. Let us know how you go. MAG has always looked like a rental to me, the beta failed to impress.
Move feels quick and accurate so should work well, but on resi5 so far it feels a bit ... weird. Prob more to do with the way the game controls than the tech tho.
Just hope they don't make every move shooter with a MASSIVE reticule, spoils it totally.

As someone who hasn't actually played the game, all this stuff sounds like it should have been in since day 1?

Still good news though, I may well pick it up cheap.

I am hopeful that the news page will include a summary of how the shadow war is going. Although I enjoy the persistence of the game, I personally don't get the feeling that the war is progressing and how my (extremely limited) contribution is adding to it. Of course, it could be argued that a lot of battles are inconsequential, but that is more philosphical argument that I am too hungover to get into.

    "Massive MAG"

Isn't that a redundancy, like "PIN Number"? :p

    ... or "naan bread"

On topic, I think this game is great - and renting before buying is a good idea. The game takes awhile to show its stuff, but once it does, it's really difficult to go back to smaller scale games. Battlefield genuinely feels small compared to what's going on here, and if you get a good group of people in your squad, it's probably the best multi-player experience available on the system. However, there are days when this just doesn't happen and you'll pull your hair out because you got matched with team mates who don't know how to follow objectives, or a squad leader, who doesn't understand their role (please set the bunkers as objectives!).

Anyway looking forward to hearing some opinions on Move's implementation, because if it's good for this game, then I'll have to pick up the controller for sure.

Oo, sounds intriguing. My old housemate loves MAG, this might give me cause to pick it up and join him for a few games.

MAG should become a free game for PS+ subscribers. This would likely ensure a large amount of MAG players online at any time, and sell some Plus subscriptions as well.

I prefer the old MAG with it's hilarious matrix death glitches and simple skill tree - the problematic 'beta' is having less and less people playing it everytime they update it. The 256 player maps are never playable on the beta, it's that empty...
