Capcom shows Dead Rising 2: Case West

An XBLA-exclusive epilogue to DR2.

Capcom has announced Dead Rising 2: Case West - another Xbox 360-exclusive downloadable game.

Like Dead Rising 2: Case Zero, this will compliment Dead Rising 2. But unlike Case Zero, Case West will be an epilogue and take place directly after the events of Dead Rising 2.

Case West was announced at the Tokyo Game Show moments ago (reported by Kotaku). Capcom showed a brief trailer of the game in which Dead Rising 2 hero Chuck Greene looked out over Fortune City. He said he must prove his innocence, but to do that he'll need help - cue the arrival of Dead Rising 1 hero Frank West.

"In co-op mode, Xbox LIVE Gold members will see the two protagonists delve deeper into the reasons behind the Fortune City outbreak and provide further links to the Willamette incident," said Capcom.

Case West hopes to replicate the success of Case Zero, which was released earlier this month and broke Xbox Live Arcade sales records.

Perhaps because of this, Capcom has seen fit to acquire Dead Rising 2 developer Blue Castle Games. The studio will henceforth be known as Blue Castle Games Vancouver.

There's no mention of a release date for Dead Rising 2: Case West. Capcom's put out some screenshots and a vid, though, which you can see below.

    Whoop whoop!

Was wondering if they might decide to do more of these considering the success of Case Zero. I'd be quite happy with a short chunk of Dead Rising every 4 months.

But then I really love me some Dead Rising!
  • TopKatt #2 2 years ago

So, as a PS3 owner I'd be missing out on the beginning and end of this game? You know what? I don't think I'll buy it.
  • richarddavies #3 2 years ago

SAY WHAAAAAAT? You must be jive talkin. Nah im not suprised really. After the success of the first one. Im wondering how it'll sell compared to the first though. I'll pick it up if it's 400 points again. It'll add even more replay value if it's co-op with Chuck and Frank.
  • Hobo #4 2 years ago

The beginning, and end are on X-Box?

Christ. If anyone honestly STILL believes these're going to be exclusive to X-Box for life then they need to wake up.
  • captain_Carl #5 2 years ago

So Capcom gave PS3 owners only some of the game.

"Hey yeah you can buy the game. But you can't play the beginning....or the end"

TopKatt would that also go for Mass Effect 2 as ME1 will never be released on PS3?

I do sympthaise as dislikes exclusive DLC that are tied to PS3 or X360 despite the main games being multiple platform.

We know that platform holders are BOTH guilty for extending their battle into DLC this gen, as exclusive titles are not numerous as last gen.

Capcom did say they view Dead Rising as valuable as the Resident Evil franchise, so should be looking to spread the love as widely as possible?!
  • randompanda #7 2 years ago

Erm, Case Zero sold loads - it'll be timed exclusive because CAPCOM LOVES MONEY
  • Notallowedhere #8 2 years ago

Does anyone actually think that Capcom would choose not to put the game on the PS3? It'll be an exclusive because Micorsoft paid the money and Sony didn't.

I wouldn't get Mass Effect 2 on PS3 if the beginning and end were missing. I take your point about the first game not being on the system and so the first chapter of the story isn't there but at least I feel as though I'd be getting a complete game. Normally this sort of thing doesn't bother me when it's extra characters, side missions etc, even the prologue I was okay with, but the epilogue??? "An epilogue, or epilog, is a piece of writing at the end of a work of literature or drama, usually used to bring closure to the work. "

There's a big difference between other versions of a game getting extras and my version having bits missing. So, as I said, I won't be getting this.

Hope I can actually download it this time..

    Damn region issues.

This will hopefully come to PSN if the PS3 version of DR2 sells well.
In the meantime, saying that the ps3 and PC versions are incomplete without case 0 is BS. I enjoyed case 0, but it's vanilla DR, it's just a tease + a warm-up session for DR2, and it does its job perfectly.
  • mikeck #13 2 years ago

I'm so boooored of exclusivity deals on content that should be multi-platform.
  • captain_Carl #14 2 years ago

    Also, welcome to the future:

Cutting out the middle of a game, and sell it on disc, then sell the beginning and end for extra.
  • darkmorgado #15 2 years ago

    Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

    That was my reaction.

    Can't wait.

"This will hopefully come to PSN if the PS3 version of DR2 sells well."

Inevitably, it's already planned, but that won't stop Capcom busting out the old: "We listened to our fans" shtick in a few months time.

    Hey Capcom, I'm a PS3 gamer.

So as such I can't get either of these DR2 add-ons? Well, fuck you, I won't be getting the full game either.

    Can you say, Timed exclusive?
  • arcam #21 2 years ago

    Can you say, Timed exclusive?

Can Capcom say it? Until they do, PC and PS3 owners will have to assume they can't play it.
  • des #22 2 years ago

woohoo...Dead Rising rising from the ashes
  • Darren #23 2 years ago

I know they aren't but I still can't quite shake of that feeling that both Case 0 and Case West are sections of the full game that have been removed rather than new bits that have been created after the main game was completed. I think that is because I have the PC version pre-ordered and on that format it seems I won't be able to play either of those minisodes which does seem a bit unfair. I'm sure PS3 owners feel the same. Exclusive content for multiformat games is a terrible idea IMO.
  • Lord_Gremlin #24 2 years ago

Alright, alright Capcom. I was going to buy it for PS3, but now I won't buy it at all. Gosh, why so much effort, you could simply make it 360 exclusive. I'm not buying 360 anyway.
You know what's funny? I've just read this on vg247 and timing was excellent - I was going to order PS3 version this evening, lol)))
  • Jonathan_Fakenham #25 2 years ago

The main game is still the main game.

Case Zero was like a mini-story set three years before, and I'm sure Case West will be more like an after the fact fan-service story, kinda linking the two Dead Rising games together..

That being said, Case Zero was sweet, and I'm definitely getting Case West too.
  • SEVQA #26 2 years ago

"So, as a PS3 owner I'd be missing out on the beginning and end of this game? You know what? I don't think I'll buy it."

Exactly, no first day purchase for this ps3 owner! Bargain bin without a single penny going to Capcom i'm afraid.
  • muscleblade #27 2 years ago

    @TopKatt

Its an epilogue for Dead Rising not Dead Rising 2.
  • TopKatt #28 2 years ago

    @muscleblade

I don't think it is mate:

"Like Dead Rising 2: Case Zero, this will compliment Dead Rising 2. But unlike Case Zero, Case West will be an epilogue and take place directly after the events of Dead Rising 2."

  • reelbigkris #29 2 years ago

Can I just get some sort of confirmation. It's being discussed as an XBLA exclusive which technicaly means it will be free from the disc. if this is the case, great I get to play it because i'll be buying my copy of dead rising 2 on the PS3 with friends for free online play and then can purchase Case: west on the 360.

It's a little bit disheartening that PS3 owners won't be getting this any time soon (or at all). But as long as it's not dependent on having a copy of the disc, i'll personaly be happy.
  • SpaceMonkey77 #30 2 years ago

Great news. If they sell it at another 400 points, I'll indulge again. I do agree that it should be on both formats, but like someone else said, it's more than likely a timed exclusive. PC and PS3 owners will get the same eventually, probably even a Case Zero/West DLC pack later. Fear not, PS3 and PC owners.

Even better news, is that Capcom have realised Blue Castle's talent and invested in them. Nice to see them being more carefully selective, and this will hopefully bring some cool new games to us.

As for the Mass Effect 2 on PS3 stuff, I expect Bioware will lump an extra dvd with it, that will feed PS3 owners the lowdown, via possibly a CG film of sorts, alongside a universe codec or something. To just sell PS3 ME2 on its own would be a bit nuts, and I'm sure they are aware of this fact.
  • Jonathan_Fakenham #31 2 years ago

At least that's a step forward for console exclusive DLC. You buy the game on PS3, you can still play the prologue/epilogue on your 360 if you have one..

To all the whingers moaning about this being on 360 only, just do what I did when I wanted to play Uncharted and Blu-Ray DVDs, invest in the other console. Then you'll never have to get worked up over exclusivity issues again will you.
  • Cannibal #36 2 years ago

I don't think it will sell anywhere close to as many as the first one. The first one had the advantage of being out before the main game and the first Dead Rising experience in years. It also was a new approach and had the novelty of people wanting to see what it was about. The epilogue will just come across as run of the mill DLC by comparison, and if priced well should sell well for DLC but not to the figure of Case Zero.
  • Collymilad #37 2 years ago

It's funny watching all the PS3 fanboys bitch.

    A) It was Xbox 360 owners who bought the first game and it;s down to them that there is even a sequel in the first place.
    B) If you really cared about Dead Rising that much you'd have a 360 already.
  • darkmorgado #38 2 years ago

It was Xbox 360 owners who bought the first game and it;s down to them that there is even a sequel in the first place.

QFT. IIRC Capcom even said that the DLC was a thank-you to 360 fans for making the sequel possible.
  • TopKatt #39 2 years ago

Okay, enough's enough now tiger, the grown ups are trying to have a discussion, why don't you run along?
  • arcam #40 2 years ago

Capcom even said that the DLC was a thank-you to 360 fans for making the sequel possible.

Who charges money for thank-yous? Not that I'm saying it should be free, just that you should be able to see through this kind of line. The DLC was a way of earning money, as was its exclusivity arrangement.
  • reelbigkris #41 2 years ago

Attention... If you do not own every single console, then you are missing out on something. Whether you are a microsoft, apple, sony, nintendo, sega or a pc fanboy. There is allways something great that you are not able to play!

So enjoy what you have and keep an open mind about investing in other platforms. The real console war (sega V nintendo) was so much better than this generations virtual bickering :p

  • Syrette #42 2 years ago

    Awesome, loved Case Zero.

Bit random but I can't believe there are people out there - on a gaming forum especially - who still call the console an 'X-Box'.
  • MrFlump #43 2 years ago

What on earth is the problem with this? The game is simply complimented by Case Zero and presumably this one as well. You don't NEED to play them to get any more enjoyment from the full game.

Just because it's a 360 exclusive at the moment means sod all really. When do the 360 owners see Uncharted, LBP, Super Stardust, wip3out? If ps3 owners want to boycott it then fine. As said before, the franchise was born on the 360 in the first place but there weren't the same complaints then! I seriously doubt anyone is so annoyed at this that they won't buy the game now if they ever had the intention of doing so in the first place. It's all mouth on forums like this.

Console exclusives in general are a pain in the ass for the gamer but the options are to either buy all the available consoles or make do with what you have.
  • Tehawesomedeadman #44 2 years ago

To all ps3 owners case zero is not the ebeginning of the game it takes place 5 years before and only introduces the charaters and gives a simple backstory to the game and will not effect the overall story of the real game.
