Trials HD sells over a million

Everyone's delighted.

Xbox Live Arcade game Trials HD has sold over a million copies, Finnish creator RedLynx has announced.

RedLynx told us back in March that it had sold over one million pieces of "content" - over 825,000 copies of Trials HD at 1200 MSP (£10.20 / $14) a pop, and over 185,000 copies of the Big Pack DLC at 400 MSP (£3.40 / €4.65) apiece.

But this announcement relates to Trials HD only, and the "over a million" figure does not include sales of the Big Pack.

"Only a handful of downloadable console games have reached this plateau," said Tero Virtala, CEO of RedLynx.

"For a company of about thirty-five people, it's a significant achievement, and it validates our strategy of focusing on online and downloadable games that have the potential to evolve into long-term, successful game franchises."

Microsoft, obviously, was delighted.

"Congratulations to RedLynx for creating such a beloved, fun game that powerfully showcases the Arcade experience," Scott Austin, director of digitally distributed games at Microsoft, said.

"We look forward to bringing more Trials HD content to the Xbox Live community with the upcoming release of Big Thrills."

Big Thrills is the second expansion pack for the game, and is targeted for a Q4 release this year.

RedLynx is also making cartoon platform racer MotoHeroz for WiiWare, and has another secret project, but it won't say what.

    Well deserved. Fantastic game.

I'm rubbish at it. The best bit is the sick satisfaction of seeing the dude get punished for your failure in spectacularly grim ways as he ragdolls off the bike and into some scaffolding/glass/explosions. Worth the price of admission alone.

Agreed. They deserve every penny - Trials has provided me hours of entertainment for less than a couple of pints and a pack of baccy.
  • MiniAmin #4 2 years ago

Yeah, brilliant game which showcases the strengths of the XBLA platform. It isn't necessarily technical horsepower which is the key to success: it's fun, innovative gameplay. Well deserved.

I'm delighted as well! Congrats! Awesome game, had hours of superb fun with it and the expansion pack. And that's something I can't say about a lot of retail games. I'm certainly going to buy the upcoming expansion pack. Wonder what sick difficult achievements I can sink my teeth in now.

Never have I ever been so frustrated with a game that I had to take a walk to calm myself down before heading out for a meal with the missus. Man, the thoughts I had after playing that game had me repeating parts of the latetr levels in my mind to find the best soloution to complete it. I still have not got past the last level :(

But it's an amazing game and great to see that they have profitted significantly for thier efforts.

Congrats. I hope RedLynx made lots of money :D

btw, someone should tell them to update their Wikipedia page. The opening paragraph still says this: "The company is best known for the Pathway to Glory series released for the Nokia N-Gage platform."

Love the game but like so many have said before, FRUSTRATING TO THE POINT OF MADNESS, still love it though ^^
  • richarddavies #10 2 years ago

This is one of them games that frustrates me just as much as I enjoy it. When im stuck on a level I feel like gnawing my arm off but the satisfaction when you complete one is amazing. Well deserved.

When my colleagues berate me for not having a PS3 and missing out on some genuinely phenomenal exclusives, I take solace in Trials HD.

XBLA is the biggest "new feature" of this generation IMO.

It's good that Sony and Nintendo quickly followed with PSN and Wiiware games.

Well done red lynx even though it does become a complete b*stard in terms of difficulty later in the game.

/Still has not finished all levels.

    @Woodnotes -

I agree. I think the biggest advancement this generation has been the mass adoption of online multiplayer gaming, but the low priced download only games have been great - in many times better than full priced retail releases.

I think Trials is possible the purest game I've ever played. The more I play, the better I get, and that curve could go on forever (judging by the replays I've seen, which are humbling).

I loved it when I tried the demo, but I was too scared to buy it. I don't think my living room would survive my control pad being repeatedly thrown at things.

The instant nature of the restart button is genius. My favorite XBox 360 game by far.
  • waddlemagic #18 2 years ago

Excellent, outrageously addictive, game (with well-priced DLC to boot) - however watching those fifteen-fingered bastards at the top of the leaderboards gets me down no end.

Only the ability to share custom tracks with the world is lacking (presumably this would take some sort of monster LBP-type servers. Or something.)
  • Hypercube #19 2 years ago

Solid congrats to the whole team behind it - it's a fantastic game, not only a well designed player experience but an incredible technical achievement as well.

Geometry Wars 2, Defense Grid and Trials have seen me return to them time and time again as best mates keep high score battling on them and prompt another round of weeks seshing them.

But Trials is the king of all of them.

Really really pleased for their success and I hope the extremely well priced DLC did well also.

So many pure gaming hours. :D

King of the hill still continues to upset, but what a bloody great purchase this has been. Congrats Redlynx, and thanks for making me *laugh* with a game.
