HMV to sell Dead Rising 2 a day early

PS3 and 360 versions only.

The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Capcom's zombie kill-em-up Dead Rising 2 will go on sale a day early at HMV on Oxford Street.

It's all part of the game's official launch, set for Thursday 23rd September at 150 Oxford Street.

HMV will exchange a copy of the game for your hard-earned cash between 5pm and 8pm on the Thursday. The first 100 customers will get a free goodie bag.

The PC version will be released on 28th September, as previously revealed.

Canadian developer Blue Castle Games created Dead Rising 2, but Capcom's Keiji Inafune produced.

Earlier this month Inafune told Eurogamer that Capcom hopes Dead Rising will replace the iconic Resident Evil series as its number one franchise.

official or not, all retailers will break street date if HMV are allowed to sell a day early

Preordered mine for £28 from shopto so I'll get it in the morning a day early, let alone at 5pm a day early

I usually buy the PC version of all my games, but in this case I'm a little worried. I really enjoyed the first Dead Rising (despite the controls) so I'm wondering how it'll translate to PC?

Sounds good, wish they wouldn't bother with keeping with release dates and just sell them when they get them. So long as its a few days before I don't see the problem.

As for this, well I have Dead Rising 2 pre ordered from the hut for £24 anyway, hopefully it'll come a day early anyway!

I've got a £48 HMV card in my wallet... I've been toying with the idea of move but as Oxford sstreet is right round the corner of my work I might pop in and get this.

However I'm still uncertain if Move or dead rising are deserving of my money! I need a couple of well written reviews!

Also, why are you getting the games so cheap as £24 - £28? they are above that price on thehut.com and shopto.net.

    Member discounts or soemthing?

I very much doubt that most high street retailers/supermarkets will break street date for this. Why risk not getting future distribution of Capcom (normally well selling) games, when it's only HMV in London? I doubt most people outside of central London are going to be arsed going in for this with only a few hours advantage before the launch date.

We all know it will be £17.99 online within weeks. I will wait and grab this from a bargain bin even further down the line.

Just found a one day sale nearly 4 months or so ago, had it listed on hotukdeals for £24. Did the same with Battlefield 2 Bad Company, ended up getting that for £23 as well, its best to keep an eye out for these one off sales.

I bought Halo Reach today from HMV on an impulse purchase and I got some free downloadable helmet costume thing and 800 MS points... for £39.99. About time HMV started adding some value to shopping there. If they bundle a zombie with every purchase made between 5pm - 8pm I'm there?

hahaha you think Capcom would refuse to distribute games to a retailer for breaking street dates by a day, i think you'll find Capcom like all big publishers actually pay the stores to reserve shelf space for upcoming titles. They may threaten retailers but they would never purposely hurt there own sales by not letting there game be in as many shops as possible.
  • psychokitten #13 2 years ago

I got excited. The title should say HMV Oxford Street :/
  • andywilkie35 #14 2 years ago

    @reelbigkris

Had it on preorder since it was announced, so everytime shopto have done a one day reduction, because I had it on preorder I have had the discount automatically :)

"They may threaten retailers but they would never purposely hurt there own sales by not letting there game be in as many shops as possible."

Asda refused to sell RDR after they were threatened by the distributors for trying to sell it below a certain price, so your theory isn't exactly correct I'm afraid.

I enjoyed the first game (after several major attempts - it was far more fun once I got the mini chainsaws) as well as the demo, but Case 0 showed the game was repeating far too many mistakes of the original. Result: I don't fancy paying £40 for it, but once it's down in price then I'll pick it up.

That's still an example of the retailer having the power not the distributor, but as RDR sold out on day one, ASDA actually lost out in the end and im sure the distributor had no problem allocating the stock to other retailers.

But most games aren't day one sell outs like that.

Lets face it tho there are plenty of web retailers that will happily break street date, one already mentioned in this thread, and they never seem to get boycotted by distributors.

I'll be pre-ordering it from Gameplay, those guys get new releases to me a day early anyway.

I wouldn't worry about the PC version, looks like it will be perfect (+360 controller support)

+ its £17.95 @ zavvi + cashback if on quidco.
