Sony sending LBP2 beta invites this week

For keen LittleBigPlanet users only.

Sony will invite gamers into a LittleBigPlanet 2 beta this week, allowing them to play the PS3-exclusive ahead of its release "for a few weeks".

Invites will be sent to those "who've been really active in LittleBigPlanet," beta coordinator LiquidRunner wrote in the official European PlayStation forum.

"So if you have been a busy Sackboy or girl then an invite might be coming your way. This decision has now been made; unfortunately we are not able to recruit any further Beta Testers at present."

Probably best you keep an eye on your inbox, then.

LittleBigPlanet 2 is scheduled for release in the UK on 12th November.

I'm glad I wont be getting in on this beta- as much as I loved the first game, the beta did spoil it a bit for me

I haven't been too active on LBP recently. Does it only take into account recent activity?

I hope this doesn't mean the only people getting invites will be the folks who spammed levels with all the "H4H" bullshit.

Hopefully people in Sony's normal PS3 beta program will be getting a invite as well :)

I played lbp just a few days ago after it had been sitting on the shelf for over a year. Some of the new levels are truly amazing. They contain much that not even MM thought was possible. I can't believe that there are that many talented people out there, willing to put that much effort into something for which they get no pay for. That's true passion and it really made me exited to see what can be done on lbp2. Someone hire these people!

Edit: MM should implement a "Recommended levels" feature to lbp2, one channel where they promote the best ones (itho) so people can find these gems in a jiffy.

I agree. Making it easier to find quality content should be a priority for this new release, and a spotlight, or hall of fame list would be an easy way to do this. Sucks when amazing levels get buried by chaff.

I agree completely. If they had new community levels featured in that section every week, that would bring more people back and try new stuff more frequently.

    @Chuck

Some people used the create as a sort of game CV, I am sure I read in Edge that some have been given jobs at MM.. so I guess it wasn't a waste of time!

Wow that's great. I have much love for MM. They ignited a flame of utter joy in my otherwise fps-stained genocidal heart with lbp. The lbp2-trailer where they gave credit to the public that created all those brilliant levels gave me the feeling that MM is a wonderfull company. It felt honest and it's really great that their "experiment" succeeded as well as it did. I remeber quite a few sceptic voices when the game was released, and I'm glad they've been proven wrong.

MM picked up 3 or 4 people from the community to work at MM Towers. I tried a lot of unconventional things in LBP1 that kept breaking due to bugs, and threw up frsutrating discrepencies between the editor mode and gameplay mode. For example, in editor I could time events perfectly to the tempo of the audio, but when playing the events were no longer synchronised.

In that respect there's nobody better than me for a Beta if you want to find bugs and issues! However, the fact I couldn't achieve much of what I wanted in LBP1 meant it didn't get the playtime that'd get me on the Beta. LBP2 looks to have solved a lot and enables all those ideas to be implemented, and really achieves what LBP was supposed to. Although, admittedly, LBP1 was always supposed to be a platformer with in-game creation, and not a platformer with a level editor which it turned out as.

    Very excited about this news.

It's been my most played game for a good few years. not sure if it's enough to get into the beta with though. especially as there people who spend 140+ hours making a level... and they've made 5+ levels. i certainly don't have that sort of game time.

One of my most anticipated features is the website though where well each have our own page that lists our levels. Cool.

Although i echo ducklord's sentiments in that the original beta put a downer on the first few hours of the game for me in that i had already experianced the wow factor in the beta. Once i got past the gardens though it felt much fresher.

That feature will be there in a way. :)

Maybe the cheat to skip the tutorial is also in LBP2. Although how you can not like Stephen Fry is beyond me. :)

Our current Beta Test Community and our existing LittleBigPlanet beta testers will automatically be included in this beta trial

    That's me in then!

Its probably for the people who have made great after great levels.

They'll have the best feedback. and it means that as soon as we start the retail version of the game, it'll be full of brilliant creations.
