Crackdown 2 DLC borked

Ruffian suggests fix.

Crackdown 2 developer Ruffian Games has outlined a fix for the recently released Toy Box add-on following reports that the DLC stops the game from working.

Dundee-based Ruffian suggests clearing your cache, deleting the DLC and your profile before recovering both the DLC and your profile.

Just make sure you DO NOT delete your profile information. But you knew that already, right?

According to Ruffian, the reported problem with the 560 MSP (£4.80 / €6.72) DLC "may be an issue with the packaging process Microsoft applies to all DLC before they put it online".

The Toy Box launch trailer is below.

Does the same apply to the free version?

I haven't booted it up yet, and would rather not have to run the risk of recovering my profile, as it can take hours and comes with all kinds of potential problems.

I was just about to buy this as it's my day off. I think I'll wait for a bit until it's patched.
  • Sunyavadin #3 1 year ago

Well, the other three fixes didn't work, so I may as well try this one...

Why break the habit of a lifetime by putting out fully functional software!?
  • Retroid #5 1 year ago

    Well, that sounds stupidly broken.

Good thing I didn't immediately jump into this. Let me know when it's okay to go, then..

One thing that baffles me is when developers go on about how long and protracted the certification process is for XBLA, but then stuff like this gets through.

This isn't just a minor bug thats hard to re-create... If you download and install this dlc the game will hang on launch and is no longer playable at all.

I might try the workaround but it sounds a bit of a pain - and won't emptying the cache mean I then have to re-download every title update for every other game too ? And as for messing with my profile - forget it.

    /not impressed at all.

Is the acronym Q.A. unheard of in the games industry? Jeez

I really wish the QA process within the industry takes up again. No game will ever come without bugs or glitches, we all know that. Redownloading buggy DLC is fine, that happens but I really don't want to mess with my profile. Recovering takes ages and there's always the chance of someone making a tiny mistake and screwing up his entire profile. This really needs to stop.

    Now this makes me laugh.

When the first premium DLC was released for the original Crackdown that was borked too. I seem to remember it damaging peoples game saves in some way if you downloaded the DLC in game and not from Game Marketplace on the Dashboard or something like that resulting in a corrupt game save and alot of unhappy people.

If I delete the DLC, I can certainly carry on with the main game quite fine; so I'm not going to perform the workaround just yet. If they can't sort this out in a more user friendly way, has anyone managed to get a refund off Marketplace?
  • kinky_mong #13 1 year ago

Oh dear, crap sequel that has none of the magic of the first game now has crap DLC that breaks the game. Well done all concerned.
  • jonsaan #14 1 year ago

No problems with the DLC in my house.
  • Nephirion #15 1 year ago

Doesn't all of M$ dlc downloads state that there is no refund for any item?
  • LR100 #16 1 year ago

I didn't have any issue at all!
  • login_name #17 1 year ago

I've been using it without issue so far. I started the game new with the DLC though, no previous save.

    It's a complete fuck-up.

Friend A gets premium, it works fine.

Friend B gets premium, it makes their 360 freeze.

I get free, and after deleting and downloading it again (to get around 'you have separate versions' error) it finally works and I can connect to Friend A's game. Friend B, meanwhile has given up.

I decided to get the premium, and lo and behold it now freezes my 360 when I try to enter a city. At one point it even gave me little more than 'snow' on the screen when it did this.

I'm absolutely delighted with Ruffian as a dev so far.

    EDIT: The ridiculous fix works.

Before people are too harsh on Ruffian, please do remember they didn't develop the DLC - it was outsourced to Proper Games, who also collaborated with Spilt Milk. I'm guessing they didn't anticipate their DLC interacting with the CD2 in some way.

Still a real shame that people are having problems, for their sake I hope they track it down. I've not had any problems, but I've not been able to get together 4 people for Squad Copter fun as there's always one that has this issue.

    wow history repeats.

while I don't own crackdown 2 i did own the first and the dlc for thar corrupted my game savesseveral times, was a bitch after i had like 270 hidden orbs, in the end I had to delete the content to be able to complete the game.

Sad really this stuff should be tested before going out, seams standards are lowering this sort of news is becoming a lot more common.
  • MisterFalseName #21 1 year ago

Complete aside, and I don't think it's wrong, just odd - why highlight "Dundee based Ruffian" in the second paragraph? Seems a really odd fact to drop into an article which has nothing to do with developer location...
  • Dr_Wadd #22 1 year ago

Ok, I appreciate I'm being a muppet here, but what exactly is the difference between deleting the profile and deleting the profile information? I'm eager to try out this DLC, but not if the fix has the potential to b0rk anything else, even if it is the result of my ineptitude.
  • metalangel #23 1 year ago

@Dr Wadd: Don't try it and see. Deleting the profile just deletes that profile from your 360. Deleting it AND the infomation (as dashboard itself will warn you) also deletes all saved games and such associated with that profile.

Fixed the load screen freezing bug.

Now all of us who've got the DLC to work are now getting the bug where there's an infinitely looping voiceover as soon as you unlock an achievement, leading to a memory leak which gradually slows the game to a crawl until it finally freezes your 360 up altogether.

    Great job, guys.

Keep DLC in-house next time please, Ruffian, ok?

I expect the Deluge DLC to be FREE.
