Dragon Age: Witch Hunt DLC unveiled

Out next month for all formats.

BioWare has announced another downloadable add-on for Dragon Age: Origins designed to clear up what happens to one of the game's central characters.

Called Witch Hunt, it's out on 7th September for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. PC and PS3 will cost $6.99 while Xbox 360 is 560 Microsoft Points (£4.76 / €6.72).

Witch Hunt picks up a year after the end of Dragon Age (the official site is spoilerific, so we'll try to keep it clean here) as the Grey Wardens head out into the southern wilderness to follow up on sightings of an old friend.

Witch Hunt promises a "dramatic conclusion" to the storyline of whichever character we're on about, along with powerful rewards that transfer into the Origins or Awakening expansion pack campaigns.

You'll also be able to import your character from either Origins or Awakening, or create a new, high-level hero instead.

Old news, this was on Kotaku yesterday.

Also, the DLC campaign for DA 1 is the reason I won't be buying DA2.

They are really milking this now. How much does all the dlc add up to now?
  • Gartt #4 1 year ago

You cant really complain about value for money in the original game. 60+ hours on a single playthrough. The DLCs have generally been top notch (early ones aside) for DA and decent value.

This would be the only piece of DA:o dlc I'd be interested in..... if I was still interested in playing the game

The earlier DLC never really appealed to me but morrigan was one of my favourite characters so i might actually pick this up.

Cool. I just recently started reading the prequel books, and getting ready to finally start up Dragon Age: Origins. It's been sitting there on the shelf since release.. Between the Xbox Live deal of the week stuff and grabbing Awakenings for cheap at retail, I'll probably grab the last 2-3 DLC's I haven't already for when I start playing this.

I guess I will have scoured through it all by the time Dragon Age II arrives in March.

Talk about milking it. The thing that really bothers me about the DLC for Dragon Age is, for PS3 owners Awakening isn't available on disc. The last time I checked on PSN it was priced at over £30. Considering the full game is available for £10- £15 online atm, this is the ulimate rip off!!!

And the smaller parts of DLC are overpriced. I wouldn't dream of buying them as they don't appear to add much to the overall experience. The smaller bits of DLC should have been part of Awakening.

At least the full game is good value, though.

Awesome a reward I can use in a game I've already completed!

I think Bioware need to sort out the ordering of this stuff. Or relook at this whole "look even MORE powerful weapons to use -after the fact-.

Story good, it is a subject matter I'm most interested in to follow up!

I really like how Eurogamer mocks people who complain about spoilers. No, really, it's amusing. This method actually avoids spoilers and provides entertainment.

I shall be wanting this on the Mac I think.

    I may be disappointed.

    Cries of Milkage!
    Oh, the Whinage!

Yes, the Dragon Age does indeed Drag On,
But I'd call that "supporting the game".
  • riceNpea #13 1 year ago

oh God i love Claudia Black! i mean Morrigan.

    i will get this defo.

as for milking it....are you people retarded?! is someone holding a gun to your head to buy the DLCs?don't you have better things to complain about, like why no-one likes you?
  • GiarcYekrub #14 1 year ago

Oh Excellent I've just completed Golems

    @Lateralus2001:
At the risk of getting negative marks on here (oh noes!), I must say it serves you right for buying an RPG on a console! :)
You miss out so much free player-made content on the console versions.
  • Lateralus2001 #16 1 year ago

@Death-Jester - I agree actually. RPG's of Dragon Age's type don't play as well on console as PC. Plus no mods, as you mentioned. But my computer doesn't have a good enough video card to run recent games.

There is nothing wrong with this type of DLC, you don't have to buy it, so if you dont view it as adding anything to the game you havent lost anything - in fact its even better because it was never part of the development cycle of the main game and didnt dilute it - isnt that the whole point of DLC?

I know that DA DLC has been hit and miss - the smaller ones being nothing more than dungeon crawls, but Awakening was excellent; at a high quality 20+ hours gameplay, thats more than most full price games give these days. This DLC looks similar to that in style and therefore will probably be well worth the extra money.

The problem with DLC the way Dragon Age implemented it (putting to one side the unforgivable crapfest that was Wardens Keep and Return to Ostagar, which, by the way, is half of the currently released DLC) is that to egt the full story in of the game, you have to effecitvely subscribe to it.

I don't mind DLC as a general rule, but it stinks to have important plot points released afterwards and then be charged for it. This Morrigan lark is a double whammy because not only does it finish a MAJOR plot from the original game, but it sets up the sequel as well. To me, that makes it an essential part of the continuity and you are bing charged extra for it. It's so....bolt on it just feels wrong.

Even with that to one side, after ME, ME2, WK and RTO, i'll simply never trust Bioware DLC will be value for money ever again You have to wonder what important story elements they already have earmarked for DA2's DLC timeline.

I understand it's pointless complaining about it because that's the way the industry operates now. It just makes me giggle when everyone was up in arms about Activision's desire to go onto a subscription model, when some games are doing it anyway, they just call it DLC.

I still haven't finished DA on the PC. I found it performed horribly. My machine is capable of playing it, I even upgraded to a radeon 5850 but this games still causes issues. It works great for about 45mins then it starts to slow down. Crappy frame rates and even worse, the load times get really bad (a few mins in some cases) which in this game is a nightmare as eveytime you go indoors you get a loading screen. To me it looks like a memory/resource leak in the game and I read reports of other people having the same issue on the Bioware forums. Was really annoying because I liked the game.

Complete Origins and Awakening. Hope this is more than a 30min quest.

I like the idea of this, but past performance suggests Morrigan will show up, spout 4 lines then send a thousand identikit enemies at you. At the end you'll get an overpowered item and wonder why you spent enough to buy Kings Bounty: The Legend on such a pathetic expansion.

Yay, DLC for one of my favourite games. I've already 'completed' the game (got 1550 gamerscore), but I think I'll download this and last months Golem DLC and have myself a final, Morrigan centric, playthrough later in the year.

I also had to Lol at the person who suggests that the Dragon Age DLC had little dialogue. Leliana's Song and Return to Ostagar are very story centric, whether you like them or not is beyond the point but to suggest they were lazy tie ins is vaguely insulting. BioWare have been amazing with their support for Dragon Age
