Report: $43m This Is Vegas canned
Needed another 8-12 months to finish.
Warner Bros. has canned former Midway title This Is Vegas despite the game being less than a year from completion, according to a report.
CVG claims that Midway had spent "in the region of $43 million up to the point when it was being sold to WB" last year.
Last August Warner Bros. denied the game had been cancelled after a retailer pulled listings and told customers it was dead and buried.
Developer Surreal Software was closed down earlier this year.
What would This Is Vegas have been like? Check out our preview from April 2008 for a glimpse, or watch its final E3 trailer below.

I was kind of looking forward to This Is Vegas out of curiosity, I remember them saying how there would be vacant lots or sites under construction, which would be filled at a later date with DLC.
Shame, ah well...

it could feature:
pissed up northerners fighting over a bag of chips,
slutty girls, in sleevless tops and short skirts in the middle of winter, getting fingered on the promenade,
thousands of dirty, cheap B&Bs run by people currently on the sex register,
the worst illuminations since Stephen Hawkings put up his christmas lights,
and so much more....

Yeah The Suffering was really good, it had some genuinly creepy spooky moments in amongst all the action. A far better horror action game than Fear ever was and yet it's practically forgotten now.
As for This is Vegas, I can't say I was ever taken by the idea for the game anyway.

Cancelling a rpoject that isn't going anywhere and cutting your costs is good management, regardless of how much it has already cost (which granted, may have been because of bad amanagement)

Well, I think that's the reason people are shocked. Nothing wrong with cutting your losses of course, but the fact they spent $43m before they got to that point is pretty scandalous.
