MotorStorm 3D Rift on PSN this week

Cut-down 3D version of Pacific Rift.

Sony will release a cut-down 3D version of PS3 off-road racer MotorStorm: Pacific Rift through the PlayStation Store this week.

MotorStorm 3D Rift will be in the European PSN update tomorrow, 25th August, according to Simon Benson of the SCEE 3D Team on the PlayStation Blog. He did not mention a price.

The release, which appears to be neither DLC, free demo nor full game, presents 10 tracks from 2008's Pacific Rift in 3D if you have the requisite posh telly and glasses. There are 10 "unique" events, one for each track, and four classes of vehicle available: bikes, buggies, racing trucks and monster trucks. The full range of difficulty levels is in there.

MotorStorm developer Evolution is working on a new game in the series, MotorStorm Apocalypse, which will feature full 3D support and launch in 2011.

    3D is here now.right then.back soon...

    i've just got to go out and put my arse up for rent at 50 quid a time to save £3000 to buy a 3D telly. it beats the interest you pay on credit cards.

    I hope you 3/4 people enjoy playing the game in 3D
  • FireMonkey #3 2 years ago

    Is this the same as the Motorstorm 3D thing that was released a while ago along with Wipeout 3D and a couple of other 3D demos?
    If not what are the differences between the two?
  • Syrok Verified Community Coordinator, Tarsier Studios #4 2 years ago

    It has 10 tracks instead of one track. :)
  • FireMonkey #5 2 years ago

    @riceNpea - Just wait until you need to actually upgrade / replace your current TV. 3D isn't actually adding much of a price difference to TV's of the same quality without the 3D.
  • FireMonkey #6 2 years ago

    @Syrok - Ah, didn't realise the first was just one track. Cheers.

    What's all this £3000 for a 3D TV hyperbole bollocks?

    You can get them for under a grand.
  • Markitron #8 2 years ago

    Why do ppl assume 3DTV's are all £5000? I was in PC world the other day and a 46'' 3D Viera was 1899 euro's (Im In Ireland). Thats pretty much what I paid for my 40'' Bravia 3 years ago. Its just a premium tv feature like 1080p was at the start of this generation, which is now a standard feature. The Price will come down in time

    but...but...i've already raised £450...

    and it hurts to sit..

    This is good stuff. The demo track was a really good example of what 3D can bring when done well, so a proper PSN game with 10 tracks is most welcome.

    @Markitron
    I don't think Panasonic do a 46" 3D TV yet. Was it the 50" VT20? That would have likely been more than 1899 Euros though as it's £2300 here. There are good lower priced sets though.

    3 grand for a tv? Get facts right mate, amazon and currys under a grand
  • Markitron #12 2 years ago

    @DrDamn

    Im not 100% sure tbh, but I was def surprised at the price. Im holding out for a 3D Bravia this time next year :)
  • NotSoSlim #13 2 years ago

    @Markitron

    I hear you on the Bravia
  • riceNpea #14 2 years ago

    £1000 for a 3D telly? no thanks. why would i want to buy bog standard? that's all well and good for well established technologies like HDTV but your not going to get much for your money when it comes to 3D.

    anyway i was clearly joking in my original post not giving market research. thanks for being pendantic.

  • NotSoSlim #15 2 years ago

    No problem. Also the tv in question which is a sammy had gotten great reviews so may seem bog standard due to price but ad long as the tech inside is top notch does it matter?
  • ChromeMud #16 2 years ago

    Great, I have some Analguff red/blue glasses somewhere.......eh!....what's that?.......won't work!.....what do you mean,not compatible?,.......so I need to spend some moolah for the 3D effect to work?......it's proprietry?!?....

    you mean that Sony with all their wisdom and power can't give a cheap 3D thrill to the masses for those that have already spent their hard earned on Sony HD telly's???........well bloody Utube gives you loads of 3D options , so why cant Sony do that for their loyal customers by putting in a firmware update on the PS3 to enable the options?

    It's already been proven that the processing required to convert from one format to another is negligible!!!!.......oh!..I...see..now....silly me was thinking that by giving all the masses a 3D option that they would make more money on software so that they can still bring food to the table.ahh but they need to keep TV production lines running too, so that's what it's all about...doh!

    Come on Sony, do the right thing by giving everyone a 3D option, I'd like to sample some anaglyph 3D Gran Tursmo while I save cash for a decent experience down the line. DO IT!!!

    edit ::- Hey Apple , can I have my ' i ' back now please?......3D Grani Tursmo....ahhh that's better.......oh noooo.... wait!!!!!

    Nice. Getting my 3d tv delivered on Monday so will be great to have another scrap of 3d content to try on it.

    fair enough NotSoSlim. ive just had a look at one of the tvs you mentioned. if its as good as you think at that price it may be worth a punt. unfortunately i was put off by the 41ms lag it has in game mode.
    otherwise it fared quite well.

    EDIT: what did you buy BradlyLaw? how much and why did you chose it if i may ask?
    it seems panasonics still lead the way as far as 3D go.

    Panasonic VT20. It was £2000. I originally wanted the V20 (the version with out 3d) as both the VT20 and V20 are meant to have the best 2d picture quality you can buy but my Panasonic shop didn't have any stock with none in sight and as I needed it delivered with in a specific time frame (got a couple days off between finishing current job to starting new job - don't want to take day off at start of new job to wait in for a tv) I decided to take the plunge and go for the 3d set. Will be a 'nice to have' and future proofs the tv a bit but I doubt I'll be using it much. Was more interested in the supposed best 2d picture.

    Panasonics are the best but hurt your wallet :o( how I wish I had a credit card lol

    I've got the samsung le46c750,andd for the price i paid for it,is amazing. Wipeout 3d,Super stardust Hd look fooking great,also there's no lag with game mode activated. Also i've got 5 pairs of glasses for free.
  • peterfll #22 2 years ago

    Is this trickle of 3D content really enough to start a revolution?
  • Stepharneo #23 2 years ago

    @theiceman

    Umm...Where on earth did you get this magic deal with 5 free pairs of glasses?
  • theiceman #24 2 years ago

    @Stepharneo. When i originally bought my samsung,there was an offer if i purchased a 3d home cinema as well i would get 2 glasses with Mva. I then registered my set with samsung connect and got a free pair. My set had a fault so i got it exchanged. In the new samsung box was a free pair of glasses which i took. i then registered my set again and got another pair. that makes 5!! Hope this helped :)

    @BradlayLaw - I have a Panasonic VT20 and it is amazing, the standard 2D picture is the best I have ever seen and the 3D works very well - you will be pleased you went with it. I actually think it is good value, the standard HD 1080p panel is the best out there and you get 2 sets of glasses and the WiFi dongle (useful for DLNA streaming) in the box.

    The PS3 games are all quite good fun especially Wipeout 3D and I am very pleased there is more MotorStorm as I don't own the full version.

    Sky 3D preview is not bad, quite looking forward to the launch of that on 1st October as well.
