New Deathspank game already?

Leaked Achievements claim so.

There may be a new Deathspank game in development subtitled T.O.V.

A dozen leaked Achievements totalling 200 gamerpoints were spotted by Xbox360Achievements.

Xbox Live Arcade titles are allotted 200 gamerpoints to dish out, with add-ons awarded an extra 50 points to take the total to 250. That suggests Deathspank T.O.V - with a total of 200 gamerpoints - will be a completely separate title.

The Achievements reveal tidbits about the game. There will be a pirate ship, an evil nun, 20 levels, Santa Claus and two endings. Sounds as thought the main enemy will be someone called Wortten.

Deathspank, an action RPG based on Diablo with a comical twist, was only released for PSN and XBLA last month. Lucasarts veteran Ron Gilbert was the mastermind behind the game, but left developer Hothead shortly before release. Couple that with an unspectacular Deathspank review score of 6/10, and the likelihood of a sequel had appeared to be slim.

We'll dig.

The first 15 minutes of DeathSpank.

Deathspank is absolutely awesome. I really liked it.
  • keyboardmonkey #2 2 years ago

Thought it was great, needs co-op play over XB Live though.
  • OnlyMe #3 2 years ago

I'll have to finish it first, but I'll be interested in a sequel or an expansion if it's good.

The metacritic score of 79 seems to reflect the game (and the opinion of most EG forum users!) much better. Really enjoying playing through it in co-op.

day one for me, loved DeathSpank.

Definitely buying this if it's true. Deathspank is brilliant!

It can't hurt for prospective publishers to hear this. Let's force ourselves a sequel!
  • Jonathan_Fakenham #8 2 years ago

You gave DeathSpank a 6? Maaan, that is harsh.
Game mechanics wise, I could see that, but it was such an enjoyable little romp.

    I'd buy a sequel anyday.

I like the way the article makes it sound like the Eurogamer score alone should have prevented a sequel. "Everybody stop work at once! The Eurogamer score is in and it's not good. I'm afraid that's it, you're all fired."

6/10? Damn, that's harsh. I thoroughly enjoyed the game and even grinded my way up to level 20 to 100% it.

    edit:
To be honest, considering the ending of the original DeathSpank it was obvious that they were at least planning on a sequel. But I expected it to play in a WW2 era.

And unspectacular but imo wrong 6/10 from the EG review

Great little game and really looking forward to a sequel
  • TruWari3r #13 2 years ago

Loved Deathspank and yeah the ending already mentioned the next episode. DLC or full title, don't care as it's day 1 purchase for me and nice to see Deathspank getting love from the other comments here despite the review from EG.
  • menage #14 2 years ago

I was wondering where those pirates form the preview screens went.

  • Seoh #15 2 years ago

I also thought the EG rating of 6/10 was a bit low, i caused me to delay buying until last weekend but i don't regret it at all!
  • menage #16 2 years ago

6/10 was a joke, I found it the most fun piece of DLC gaming since Pixeljunk Shooter.

I have only played Deathspank a bit and although i quite enjoyed it, the whole weapon and armour system just seemed rather pointless. I didnt really get any sense of acheivement from getting that next bit of armour or that shiny new weapon, basically because the game is constantly throwing them at you. And the bosses i fought were a little bit boring too. So, the game seemed fun, but ultimately not that rewarding. Heres hoping the sequel can improve on it.

Oh and i would agree that 6 for the original was probably a little harsh. A 7 or 8 for me.

No need to refer to that review again, EG. We already know how completely off that score was. I wouldn't be proud of that review.
  • lennon #19 2 years ago

Quality news. Must go back and finish the first now. Absolutely brilliant game.

"Couple that with an unspectacular Deathspank review score of 6/10, and the likelihood of a sequel had appeared to be slim."

You may be slightly overrating the importance of the opinion of the single person reviewing the game for Eurogamer, Rob.

i absolutely loved Deathspank...pretty much my favourite xbla title this year, can't wait for the sequel

    now...get in the bag!!

I can picture the scene over at Hothead Games:
    "Deathspank's sold really well."
    "Has it? That's nice."
"Made us quite a bit of money. And we're getting loads of really positive feedback. Pretty decent reviews on most sites and in most mags, a lot of people saying good things about the game in forums".
"Shall we start work on the sequel then?"
"Yea... wait... what's this? EG only gave it 6/10! Noooo! Burn this place TO THE GROUND!"

I mean, come on, I love EG but your opinion doesn't carry that much weight.
  • SlippedDiscs_of_Tron #23 2 years ago

Count me in! I'm not usually a fan of loot-heavy, dungeon crawlers, but I absolutely loved Deathspank. Throw in online co-op and more poop jokes, and I'm one happy orphan-wrangler!
  • beastmaster #24 2 years ago

I want to spank death more. With bigger weapons!
  • DigitalEternal #25 1 year ago

I dont thing EG's rating of this game should even be considered, probably done by some mindless shooter fenatic.

Avrage online score for DS is around 8.2, PSN score was 4.5+/5 when I last looked, Deathspank is an awesome game and one of the best downloadable around, Id even go as far as to say it could have almost gone retail.
