PES 2011 a week after FIFA in UK

A year for change?

Konami has given PES 2011 an 8th October UK release date on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. The other versions - PS2, PSP, Wii - will follow later that month.

Genre rival, FIFA 11, will be released a week earlier on 1st October.

Konami has gone to great lengths to convince the world that this year PES will be better. Western journalists were even flown to Japan HQ for the first time in memory to see behind the scenes - Eurogamer TV among them.

Key features for PES 2011 are the Master League Online, 360 degrees of freedom and button-mappable tricks. On top of that, Konami's promising the most fluid game of football yet, with improvements made to animations and overall presentation across the board.

Eurogamer's examination of an unfinished PES 2011 offers plenty of detail.

Eurogamer plays an actual match of PES 2011. No frills, no cinematics.

Used to be PES all the way for me, but this still looks like it's on rails. FIFA again this year eh?
  • Cigol #5 2 years ago

The video looks really good. Especially the bits at the end.
  • Boomerang #6 2 years ago

    Hmm, regarding the video:
The Portugal goal (Danny, #10) at about 6:00 in the video - the keeper didn't move. No keeper would stand like a twat (well, maybe a couple). Looks terrible and i'd feel bloody aggrieved if my keeper did that.

    Hope it's sorted for release...

hmm, i might try fifa for a week then trade for pes. Im stubborn u c
But generally i cant see many others waiting for a week after fifa release... Should have got in there first K

    @glglg

if you are only gonna keep fifa for a week id rent it....renting will cost about £5-7
if you buy then trade you will lose atleast £10

but ill get and keep fifa11...and might rent pes to give it a go.
im in the online pes beta now and tbh its ok....but still alittle poop

    @onezeonx

Is it really still that bad? I was hoping after reading all the previews that it would at least be much better than last year's effort.

@Boomerang</a>; I agree with that, the keeper AI is obviously reacting too late, not realising the ball is a threat. The hopeful optimist in me is going to assume that the aggression attribute is at play here - with it affecting how pro-active keepers are off the line. But likely just not switching the AI on soon enough...

There's a lot of nice footage embedded in there though, and it's not like FIFA 11 is going to be perfect (far from it). I think it looks and sounds promising but the proof is in the pudding so we'll see.

People should ignore this video and the MOL Beta people. The code from GC is brand new and the videos on youtube are on another level.

Last year I bought Fifa for £24 and sold it for £18 six months later, so trialing these games isn't much of an issue thanks to big supermarkets. That and the fact that the EA team come across as idiots gave the whole thing a satisfying feeling! I still have PES 2010 though...

I'd like this to be good, I convered to FIFA last year but I would go back if PES would prove itself again.

According to the talk on the FIFA Socced Blog gameplay (of FIFA 11) is still too fast and there is stil too much emphasis on pressure without any effects on stamina. The various MOL videos of PES 11 on Youtube look quite amazing though, with a nice pace and lots of unrepetitive midfield-acrivity.. The only thing that really bothers me is that the ball seems to have a built-in autobrake and tends to slow down too rapidly at the end of each pass.

I'm glad I'm not a FIFA player... if I was I assume it's likely I'd enter forums for all the games I'm not interested in and suggest the game I play is better. Wow, what a pathetic and immature person that would make me!

Fortunately I'm a ProEvo player and I'm really looking forward to this. Do I think it's a good idea to charge gamers every year for a new version? No. I can't see why sports games can't just have a downloadable update until a version with a new engine appears every couple or so years. Do I think this new version will be perfect? No. But that's fine, I've never played a perfect game. All we can hope for are improvements and steps in the right direction. As ProEvo has never ended up half as bad as some other games sequels, I'm quite confident I'll enjoy this new one.

Day one, baby! Still playing PES 2010, so I'm looking forward to this one in a big way. :)

edit: about the keeper in the vid. I could be mistaken but it looks like the game is being played on easy Vs. the CPU. The defenders aren't being particularily aggressive, either. That could explain the crap keeper, as the previews I've read all say the keeper's way improved (which is a welcome change, to say the least!).

i am actually hoping this pes is gonna be good. after watching that video im not sure. i love fifa but its always nice to have something different. i really like the features of the tactics and those little things but for me the game play looks too much like how fifa was around the 09 edition. the ball movement doesnt look like how a ball should move. it looks too fixed and not fluid. i think fifa's is more smoother. and the players movements and controls are the same. im no fifa fan boy but i do think how fifa have it is alot better. tho i dont mind being proved wrong when i get my hands on the demo.

Looking forward to playing both titles...as long as the keeper AI in PES '11 is significantly improved over previous iterations (a particular bugbear of mine).
  • bigbadbeasty #21 2 years ago

I'm still not sure myself. I was a PES fan since... well ISS, but I switched to FIFA last year (FIFA 10), I think mainly because they made the ball control in PES require so many additional buttons. Granted FIFA 10 has the skill moves, but on the whole they seem so hit and miss (imo) that clever analog control is still needed.

I still have very fond memories of PES2/Winning Eleven 6 :)
  • dirtschmooz #22 2 years ago

I reckon they should wait 'til next year before they release it. I know they need to cash in, but having made such a major overhaul to the game I have a bad feeling there is still lots to iron out before it's good enough to give PES fans the game they crave.

Looking forward to a demo before committing to day one purchase.

ILL decide on the finished product of both games.Fifa 11 seems to be FWC 2010.5 but you just wont know until you play the demos of both which Rutter and Murphy state will be based on near completion code. The master league online code is pre Eurogamers playtest one so there are gonna be issues. The majority of people who have played recent versions of Pes 2011 say videos do not do the game justice at all.I suggest you watch the gamescom videos on YouTube via prorevoTv channel. One vid has Barca V Bayern, shows the game has genuine potential.Pes 5 was the greatest sports game i have ever played and whether or not this can replace it ill have to wait.Same with Fifa a beautifully animated game but fixing manager mode and tweaking ball physics personality plus aside will not make a new game. Both games may suprise.
