Virtua Tennis 4 revealed for PS3

Supports both Move and 3D.

Virtua Tennis 4 for PS3 has been unveiled at Sony's gamescom press conference in Cologne, Germany.

The game was officially announced, although not demonstrated. The next entry in SEGA's tennis series appeared in showreels for the PlayStation Move motion controller and PS3 3D, and Sony Europe boss Andrew House confirmed it will support both technologies.

Tom, reporting live, said it looked "quite effective" in 3D. Watching actual real-life tennis is said to be one of the best applications of 3D TV too, so we can believe him.

Obviously, no other formats were mentioned - but don't rule it out. Sumo Digital's Virtua Tennis 2009 - which followed 2007's Virtua Tennis 3 - appeared on 360, PC, Wii and PS3 last year. Expect an official announcement from SEGA soon.

I've got Move and Nav controller on preorder, but I'm still rather skeptical about those games that pretty much require you to stand up - and have plenty of room for arm swinging - in order to use them. I just can't do that in the TV section of my living room without having to move a table out of the way, and even then I would be looking down at my 40" TV at an angle that could best be described as awkward.

But I guess those in similar situations are at least still better off with Move than Kineckt, as there will probably be plenty of Move games you can comfortably play sitting down - and I'm pretty sure those will be the ones (eg. shooters) I'm looking most forward to using Move with anyway.

I'm currently working on a Move promotion, and we also have GT5 on a 3D telly in the booth. I don't have a PS3 so haven't been especially interested in Move, but the responsiveness of the controller is incredibly impressive, as is the 3D GT5 (not £2k's worth of impressive, but impressive non-the-less). With all that said, combining the two would be amazing. Would love to have a go on this.

Lets hope it's better than Virtua Tennis 2009. Bought that for around £5 and still felt slightly conned.

Hmmm, I'd buy Move to play Virtua Tennis with for sure. Love that game, although I didn't especially like Virtua Tennis 2009, mind; it was bland and I felt it lacked that certain something that made VT3 so compulsive to play. Hope VT4 is being coded by SEGA this time round and not Sumo Digital.
