Kojima teases weekend announcement

Not Zone of the Enders 3 related.

Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima has tweeted to say he'll make an announcement about something or other this weekend.

Before you get your knickers in a twist, know this: it has nothing to do with Zone of the Enders 3.

"Typhoon 4. It looks like it won't have an effect on the weekend. Thank goodness! However, my health is bad. Prior to TGS, we'll have a big announcement on Saturday or Sunday, so I must recover," he said (translated by Andriasang).

After his fans burst into flames of speculation, he followed up his initial tweet with this: "ZOE3 and so forth - it's not that big an announcement. However, I think you will be happy."

So, what do we know about Kojima's next?

Last month he was reported to be working on an adventure game with 5pb boss Chiyomaru Shikura.

Shikura said Kojima's new game will be the third entry in "a conceptual science series". At the time, we all thought: Zone of Enders 3.

All Kojima has said is his next game will "challenge a certain type of taboo".

In June Kojima said Zone of the Enders 3 has been "sort of pushed to the back" due to "various things".

As for the taboo thing Kojima mentioned on Twitter, he said: "The Taboo is a project for high spec machines that I'm hoping to do myself next. It may or may not be a taboo, but for me, I think it will be quite the problematic game."

Glad that's cleared up.

Kojima's most recent project was of course Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker on PSP. Oli Welsh reviewed the game for Eurogamer.

    Anyone else thinking 'just get on with it, and tell us all about it when you've got something'? O_o

    They're going for a subtitle rather than a number but, technically, yes it is.

    Nah, if even he himself says it's no biggie, I guess it's something small or silly, like an iPhone game or something..

    im with jonathan. i got all excited for doom 4 and it turned out to be an iphone game.maybe the next mgs in the series but on iphone,or wii. id seriously prefer ZOE3 or a teaser of a teaser of a new IP that he is working on,something not to do with nuclear weapons or guns.

    Hmm. Third in a conceptual science series, eh? Maybe this could be a spiritual successor to Snatcher and Policenauts? Outside of ZOE3 that's the only Kojima related thing I can think of that fits. If it is count me excited.

    I'm afraid @Jonathan_Fakenham might be right, but I def hope not. God, why can't these guys just stop with the goddamn iPhone games... I played a lot of them but I'd never spend any money on them! (unless it's Tap Tap Revenge)

    hmm, for high spec machine? 0_o

    the only future kojima game that will come to "High spec machine" is Metal Gear : Rising.
    Maybe what he mean by high spec is a multicore PC with decent VGA?

    i would be very happy if he announced MGS4 reissue like he did with MGS2(substance)and MGS3(subsistance)..and this release could have even more bonus stuff,and trophies would be cool as well

    Well it won't be groping men's balls, or pants wetting fetishes he's done that already. Someone needs to organise a coming out party for Hideo, so he can keep all the repressed weirdness out of his games.

    Oh man, wait. This could totally be an upscaled "MGS Trilogy" set for the PS3. An upscale is no biggie right?

    jonathan has a very good guess,it must be a HD compilation of all the 3 metal gear solid games for the ps3 and 360!

    Perhaps it's that game he always talked about wanting to make where, when you die, you actually die - for good, no option to reload. Could be cool if it is.
