Third Professor Layton dated for Europe

Reveals the Professor's mysterious past.

Professor Layton and the Lost Future will be released in Europe on 22nd October 2010, Nintendo has announced.

It's got 165 new brain teasers, riddles and logic puzzles.

And, as fans of Level-5's enchanting puzzle series will know, it's got a story.

The Lost Future begins when the Professor receives a mysterious letter written by his sidekick Luke.... "But sent from 10 years in the future!"

Future Luke warns of a terrible calamity that has befallen London and he needs the Professor's help.

The British Prime Minster disappeared (if only) after taking part in a special test on a time machine, which resulted in an explosion. "Could this incident be related?"

Luke and the Professor jump into the time machine to find out.

You can go on the London Underground and visit Chinatown.

There are more narrative and animated movie scenes than in the previous two games.

"Players will be able to discover more about the Professor's mysterious past through flashbacks, as the story is revealed with full-motion animation sequences that will explain the secrets behind Professor Layton's lost lover and how he obtained his well-renowned hat," says the press release.

His lost lover? What?

The jovial academic's got the 'Laytonmobile', which you can direct, and a new pet parrot to interact with.

For those who are truly stuck, there's a new Super Hint feature that offers an "extremely telling clue".

The US version of the game is called Professor Layton And The Unwound Future. We don't know why Nintendo changed it for Europe, either.

    cause Layton and Pandora's Box was better a better name than the Diabolical box. even if it wasn't called either of those in the game. Likewise the lost future sounds better imo, even though both are crap names for a game

    Day one purchase. The series so far as been terrific. Needless to say I can't wait for the 3ds versions either, should make for some very nice puzzles.

    A box that kills anyone who opens it is a pretty diabolical box. It isn't Pandora's box.

    One of the few reasons to keep hold of a DS. Day one for me.

    Is there still an rpg buried in this?
  • Der_tolle_Emil #7 2 years ago

    There was never anything resembling a RPG in the Layton games.

    @lennon

    It's the fourth one that has teh RPG, "Professor Layton's London Life" :

    Professor Layton's London Life (レイトン教授の 2525;ンドンライフ;) is a 100 hour RPG developed by Brownie Brown. The game features many of the Professor Layton Series characters, from all four games released as of 2009. The game allows the player to create his/her own avatar that they can have live in London. Specific londoners will ask them to do certain tasks, unlocking more places in London to visit. The game has been described to have graphics very similar to Mother 3, and it has been said that London Life is a sneak peek for a new Level-5 game, Fantasy Life. (from Wikipedia)

    Just googled and realised I had misread the original article and assumed the next one coming out was the fourth one.

    love the series, such character! Pandora's Box at some very poorly worded puzzles though... and MCQ puzzles for which more than one answer should have been correct...

    regardless, who doesn't love Layton? They really take their time between releases though...
  • bionutz #12 2 years ago

    wasn't there a reference to his lover in the pandora's box?

    @FenderMaster

    Really? As far as I can tell they seem to be going for one a year for the localised versions, which is pretty regular.

    By the way. If anybody else is interested the Layton movie, released in Japanese cinemas earlier this year, is also out on DVD and Blu-Ray in October.

    Only just got on the second one, played the first then played all the phoenix wright games back to back, feels odd now.

    Either way the first was great and the second is so far so this should be great too.

    Good news, it's been a while since I got done with the last one. Been tempted to check in on Puzzle Agent to fill the gap.
