DDR PlayStation 3 supports Move

Out later this year.

DanceDanceRevolution on PlayStation 3 will support Sony's motion controller, Move, Konami has confirmed.

"For the first time in the history of the franchise, DanceDanceRevolution PS3 will feature a truly interactive dance experience via PlayStation Move as it challenges players to use both their hands and feet simultaneously - providing the most rhythmic and realistic dancing experience yet on PlayStation 3!" reads an excitable press release.

"Additionally, compatibility with the PlayStation EYE allows players to take pictures of their room and add dance club components to transport their home into a virtual club." Banging.

The game, due out later this year, will come with 25 new original songs by Konami's in-house artists, as well as 25 "famous" licensed tracks.

Konami will show the game to the public for the first time at a community event at the Royal-T Café, Los Angeles, on Thursday, 12 August.

The Japanese publisher also has upcoming Kinect title DanceMasters and a new Wii DDR game in the works.

I just can't wait not to play this

I see the story's tagged with PS3, Wii and 360, has this been confirmed on 360 now? If so, any Kinect support?
  • Mkwone #3 2 years ago

I'm sure they will support kinect, but in an ironic twist you have to play sitting down.

Expect to see Dance Central turn up on PS3 next year then
  • miiiguel #5 2 years ago

Probably the most uncool thing to do ever. Dancing in front of a TV trying to mimic something. Can't do it, sorry, but no dancing er... games for me.

So not only will you be dancing like a nutter, but you'll be wielding a set of glowing dildos while you do it?

    Brilliant.

It could work out I guess, but waving your arms around while holding controllers is what lead to a good few of those Wii-related injuries. I can see the whole body dance thing working better with Kinect.

I did catch a go on Para Para Paradise a while back though, so I'm not totally averse to the idea. I was rubbish but it was good fun.

Probably only 200€ for a mat, 2 Moves, camera and game!

Couldnt care less about the game but this is part of a recent trend of multiplatform games that support move and not kinect. Interesting to see if it continues

I have been a huge fan of the DDR series in the past, and I've missed one aspect from DDR from many modern guitar hero and dance style games: DDR always gave you ok, good, great and perfect timing ratings for every step. I hope they can add something like that kind of depth to this game. We'll have to wait and see though ... Right now it sounds like they'll be using the basic Move type tracking, though maybe using proper 3D tracking versus the Wii version (I hope), and from the sounds of it also some of the 'grab stuff from your livingroom in 2D' that's also in Beat Sketchers?

What would be the point using Kinect in a game that uses a dance mat anyway? There is no point shoehorning the controls in just for the sake of it. As the article mentions Konami have another dance game with Kinect support.

Actually, if I read it correctly it seems that this uses more AR type stuff - you see your living room while you're dancing and you can add dance club things into it as a form of augmented reality. I don't suppose we can get cages hanging from the ceiling with scantily clad dancers in them? :D

Samba de Amigo worked much better on the Dreamcast with dedicated hardware than it did using the Wii's generic solution.

I expect most music games which try and hop on this bandwagon will suffer a similar fate.

    @dfua

Whatever they are using move for could probably be achieved with kinect, in particular the camera stuff, regardless of any other games they have in development. My point is it appears to be easy to include an established wii control scheme onto the ps3, which doesnt appear to be the case with kinect.

I agree but thats not always a good thing! It's clear that Move can easily be tacked on to existing games, while Kinect is better used in games built around it. At least it forces designers to think more about how to use it rather than the some of the poorer uses for motion control added just because they can.

In this case it would be a lot of extra work that doesn't really add to the experience when you can get full motion dance games that do support it far more effectively.

    Don't feel like dancin', dancin'
Even if I find nothing better to do
    Don't feel like dancin', dancin'
Why'd you break it down when I'm not in the mood?
    Don't feel like dancin', dancin'
Rather be on my PC with a mouse, playin' Starcraft II-ooh-ooh

Move's getting a lot of support. About a dozen more games announced SINCE E3.

re 'At least it forces designers to think more about how to use it rather than the some of the poorer uses for motion control added just because they can.'

This is true. However, the problem MS have is that peripherals live or die on the titles that are available for them, and thus far Kinect titles seem pretty thin on the ground, and the stuff that has been announced is largely quite niche - i.e. party/casual games.

Some original Konami songs...hopefully not of the same ilk as the Pes music

    For the un-pes-initiated

    see what I mean.

25 songs! Jeez, Konami are looking to do people over with DLC then. I hope the RRP of the disk represents the low number of songs like Singstar does
  • Arwin #21 2 years ago

@lucky: actually, Samba di Amigo seems a great fit for the Move. :D

Wow, Dance Masters finally got a mention on Eurogamer after its E3 showing nearly two months ago!

Although looking at the other comments, it looks like absolutely nobody bothered to read that bottom line (apart from dfua, who got negged for it, wtf?).
