World of Darkness MMO reveal soon?

"Something really big" at September con.

There's talk that EVE Online developer CCP is to lift the lid on its World of Darkness vampire MMO at a fan convention in September.

The convention, called The Grand Masquerade, is a gathering for devotees of the World of Darkness pen-and-paper role-playing games made by White Wolf, which CCP now owns. It takes place in New Orleans from 23rd to 26th September.

Shane DeFreest, World of Darkness community developer for CCP and White Wolf, told horror fan site Flames Rising: "The big news that I can't really give to many details on is that we've got something really big we want to show our fans first.

"Friday at sundown is where we give everyone the first look at the future of the World of Darkness. If you have been a fan of our games for two months or two decades you won't want to miss what we have to say."

There's no guarantee that this reveal will be about CCP's MMO based on the World of Darkness universe; it might just be a White Wolf project.

CCP's World of Darkness was first announced when the two companies merged back in 2006. Little is known about it, other than it will apply the EVE Online philosophy of sandbox, player-led MMO design to World of Darkness' contemporary setting of supernatural horror and political intrigue.

With CCP also working on EVE console shooter spin-off DUST 514 and station-side avatar expansion Incarna - and not known for hurrying development - holding your breath for World of Darkness isn't advisable.

    A vampire MMO? Intrigued!

"Friday at Sundown" - sounds like a Masquerade-related announcement to me. Cool! The original vampire: the masquerade RPGS are flawed diamonds, a good MMO would be brilliant with all the different clans (read:classes) and factions in the world, and it would be great they implement some sort of political/intrigue mechanic so that there is always a shifting balance of power.

As long as it's not yet another WOW clone, I'm interested.

    Sandbox?
    Vampires?
My first MMO since the original SWG?
    Maybe...

Chance to get in on a CCP MMO from the start would be a big draw for me...

@SAMagic: If Eve is anything to go by, this won't be a WoW clone. It will very likely be a "niche" MMO, like Eve.

EVE may be 'niche' but it's the most profitable (by the means the money doesn't almost go all to 'other sources' it goes directly to the devs and the game(s) - unlike Blizzard) MMO out there and (imo) the best designed one - as it's the truest form of MMORPG you can get, ever since CCP bought out Whitewolf I've been waiting on this game a LONG time, a 'reveal' doesn't mean it's close to release tho 2010 iirc was the targe however it's looking 2012 now

As long as its the old skool WoD (as with the other V:tM games). The "revised" WoD is diluted shit.

Bloodlines is my favorite rpg of all time. I would love to see a decent sequel. Mmo, not so much.

Ahhh Velios the Vampire shall be born :)

I am really interested in it. The sandbox aspect of Eve was brilliant and matching this up World of Darkness could be classic.

The whole vampire thing went south when Anne Rice turned them into effeminate, whiny, androgynous prettyboys (remind me, did her first novels come before or after the first JRPGs? It almost seems like one must have inspired the other :p).

Alright, there have been some great vampire movies since then (and I did quite like the Vampire: The Masquerade RPG), but I for one was delighted when it was announced that Supernatural will dedicate an episode in the upcoming season to slaughter some of all those annoying Twilight/True Blood-esque vamps.

    /mope
    You mope in total secret.
    /stare
You stare intently into the void.
    /struggle
    You struggle against the beast.

That said, I would love to play an eco warrior - I mean, werewolf - but I guss they start with the vampires because of... well... it's a bit popular these days.

I also loved (and hated) that masquarade rpg game. I still vividly remember a haunted house portion, and a disco with a crazy vampire lady.

I love the concept of Eve, but I am not a fan of only being in a spaceship in my mmo's. This sounds very interested.

Isn't Funcom making a vampire-like mmo as well? That one is also a long time coming already.

Best MMO ever in the making and I certainly hope it will be a niche game , just like EVE is.
