UK PC gamers denied Mafia II CE

Moan and we'll break your legs.

2K will not release the PC version of the Mafia II Collector's Edition in the UK, the publisher has confirmed to Eurogamer.

No explanation was offered.

The PC version of the Collector's Edition will be released in North America and many European countries, as detailed by 2K Games' senior manager of interactive marketing Elizabeth Tobey.

The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions will be released in the UK.

So, what are UK PC gamers missing out on?

Each CE will feature a metallic SteelBook case, a hardback art book, a soundtrack and a map.

On top of that, "select UK retailers" will provide free downloadable content to those who pre-order the Collector's Edition. The DLC will get you two new luxury cars and two suits.

"By offering downloadable content and special editions of Mafia II, we are able to show our appreciation for those guys wise enough to reserve their copies early," said 2K president Christoph Hartmann in May.

Before you head out the door with your pitchforks, know that there's always the Digital Deluxe Edition of Mafia II, which is available for pre-order at "select retailers" and Steam now.

Mafia II will be released on 27th August. Visit the gamepage for all there is to know.

Excellent, no idiot tax on the game then
  • bad09 #2 2 years ago

Seeing as I will buy it off Steam and get the first game for free I couldn't care less about an inflated cost full of useless junk anyway Collectors Edition.

So, what are UK PC gamers missing out on?

Not much apparently. Thats a pretty crappy CE. GTA threw down a big ass map in every normal version of the game FFS.
  • MiniAmin #4 2 years ago

Can't complain too much... at least there's a normal PC version which looks like it'll actually utilise the strengths of powerful PCs, rather than being an inferior port.

Possibly would've been interested in the soundtrack, but i'll just illegal that instead.

2K... go home and get yer fuckin' shine box!

edit: don't go overboard on the -s, it was meant in jest :0/

they figured the uk pc gamer is smarter than the copnsole kiddies, and already has given up on the overpriced collectors edition a long time ago (of course, only good games like Civ5 need to have a Collectors edition ;-) )
  • karooo #9 2 years ago

Like anyone was going to buy this crappy CE in the first place.

Can we use a clamp or clamp related device on this guys legs? Like, mild bruising though.

Oh dear looks like I have another publisher in my boycott list, will fit nicey in there with acti and ubi. so sick of these shite publishers that treat pcgamers like dirt then all they do is moan about piracy
  • bad09 #12 2 years ago

"another. allthough small, death knell for p.c. gaming im afraid."

What not getting mugged off with tat? If that's the PC dying I'm all for it! Personally though I'd say they didn't bother because we are all buying off Steam anyway and not stupid enough to fall for these CE's. Keep your tat I'll just play a superior version of the game. For cheaper. In HD. ;)

For a mad fanboy you're kinda funny Mickey, I like the funny ones gives you class :)

Why's everyone banging on about the abandoning PC gamers?

It's only in the UK, and I suspect the majority will download the game from Steam anyway - so they wouldn't get the CE in the first place. You can see how much effort has been put into the PC version.

In fact, if I'm not mistaken the game was announced for the PC first.

Oh, and the guy above? You're being moronic.

If there was no profit in releasing games on the PC they wouldn't do it, they don't just do it consistently out of pity. Once you've tallied up the costs things work out about the same anyway: especially when you're buying games off of Steam for £15 - £20 less than the console versions.

    @mickey2010

    Calm down there, champ.

Also, the difference between 30fps and 60fps is non-existent? Someone is furiously in denial.

    @mickey

Armed Assault 2? Dawn Of War 2 Chaos Rising? Napoleon Total War? Star Craft 2? Not to mention almost all the console games in 2010 graphical quality?

Gaming is just better on a PC. Graphically and in how the games are controlled. If you're happy to pay less to play lesser versions of games on a pad then go you. It's just not good enough for me though.

Personally I'll always buy the PC version if possible, otherwise I'm stuck playing on console hardware that was designed almost a decade ago. Hardly next gen anymore.

Not everyone can afford a PC or has the (minimal) level of intelligence needed to use it, but that's no reason to get your panties in a twist.

Be happy with your elderly console by all means, I still like all mine, but seriously, they can't even hold a candle to a low end dual core PC from 4 years ago, let alone a cheap machine bought today. Its not even close.

EDIT: Just did a bit of curiosity googling.

US Console game sales revenue 2009: $10.5 billion
US PC game sales revenue 2009: $13.1 billion

    Huh. Wasn't actually expecting that.

"good luck hope its not bug ridden.."

Same game play code, any bugs we get, you get. Only difference will be better graphics. Soz. I just wish the next gen of consoles would come out and stop holding everyone else back. I want more DX11 support please, tessalate those curves, get rid of that old jagged edge bull, we are past it.

Even if it is buggy, at least there will be either community patches (not likely due to DLC nuking the mod scene) or dev patches which I don't have to pay £30 (XBL) a year on top of my broadband connection to get.

I wont deny that console gaming has it's perks, lounging on a couch with a controller is nice, I've done it, but I still prefer the PC for gaming for anything but racers and some third person games. Though I can always plug my 360 controller into my PC...and sit on the couch...enjoying slightly better graphics...I could even plug my PC into my TV...

PC gaming died with Crysis? Well Crytek obviously didn't seem to care, they have already said that Crysis2 will look better on PCs.

Finally, this doesn't show anything about PC or console bias. It's only the UK that aren't getting the CE, so obviously, 2K only hate British PC gamers.

As for this article, I am with those who couldn't care less. CE editions are a rip off and the only one I ever bought was GTA:SA and I will never do it again.

  • bad09 #18 2 years ago

    @Spuzzell

I agree on all that except the pad knocking. I love my windows pad and won't have a bad word said against it, it's the main reason why I don't need a console anymore! :)

I think the anti-PC-tards are partiucularly worried these days after the publication of DD sales, EA's impressive PC revenue, and the release of Starcraft 2. Exciting times for them.

Didn't care about the Collector's Edition anyway; the steelbook would have been nice but I'm not prepared to pay the extra £10-£15 for it on the 360 (this edition priced at £54.99 on GAME's website). The art book and CD would have only been used once then shoved away in a cupboard never to be seen or used again and the DLC sounds pretty shallow to me, adding little or nothing to main gameplay experience.

Great, another thread containing ANOTHER pc vs console argument.

    fucking /yawn!!
  • Death-Jester #22 2 years ago

I have bought a couple of CEs in my time, but always because they had something interesting in them (Fallout 3's Bobblehead, Oblivion's coin etc.) A metal case, a CD and a book of pictures does not an interesting CE make.

And to the people who badmouth PC games, I say to you - Fallout 3. Think of all the amazing content PC players could enjoy (mods, new areas, new housing, new weapons, new quests, new enemies, new UI, new everything!), for FREE, that you couldn't.

I believe he's referencing Clamps from the Robot Mafia in Futurama.

Not suprising really since most will buy it off steam...
