Catwoman confirmed?

The sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum has been revealed as Batman: Arkham City.

The game will be released in autumn 2011 on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

The Game Informer website spilled the beans as part of a teaser for an upcoming issue of the magazine.

Of note in the illustrations provided is Catwoman. She stands back-to-back with Batman, with the caped crusader holding her whip. She's also pictured dangling upside, bound in chains.

According to a press release that's just popped through our virtual letterbox: "Batman: Arkham City builds upon the intense, atmospheric foundation of Batman: Arkham Asylum, sending players soaring into Arkham City, the new maximum security 'home' for all of Gotham City's thugs, gangsters and insane criminal masterminds.

"Set inside the heavily fortified walls of a sprawling district in the heart of Gotham City, this highly anticipated sequel introduces a brand-new story that draws together a new all-star cast of classic characters and murderous villains from the Batman universe, as well as a vast range of new and enhanced gameplay features to deliver the ultimate experience as the Dark Knight."

I was hoping the title would be more intriguing ('Gotham Burning' or something), but I guess this retains Arkham in the title which is important for the brand. And who knows? Maybe the Joker wants to convert the city into one huge asylum.

Plus Catwoman will no doubt be more interesting for a coop option over Robin.

I think "Arkham City" refers to the fact that they've moved the asylum into the city centre (as seen in the teaser) and presumably there's a breakout, with inmates taking over Gotham City (or at least a part of it).

GI covers have been amazing for a good while now. A couple of years Edge THE magazine for amazing covers but they have really dropped the cool cover quota.

My most hyped game for next year by a country mile. The name seems a bit lame but I'm sure WB wanted to give some idea to average Joe that this is the sequel to AA.

I wonder if we're going to get some co-op with Catwoman? Whip to swing as apposed to Bat's zipline? Red eyes for augmented reality like bats? (the x ray specs for the first ar confirmed to be gone, Art directer at Develop) Also 2 face confirmed in pic with bloody Bats.

I think it's more a sort of Escape From New York style setup, with a big bunch of the city walled up as a prison.

At least, that's what the description sounded like to me.

Your not the only one. I hope there isn't an emphasis on some kind of co-op. The first game was awesome at least partly because of the atmosphere, which would have been ruined if I was forced to play with somebody. It could still be fun, but wouldn't be the same at all.

Co-op in games can be awesome, but it doesn't suit everygame.

With the trailer showing Joker still in a wheelchair, chronlogically the game must occur pretty quicly after the ending of Arkham Asylum, which probably wouldnt leave a lot of time to wall off part of they city.

I'm expecting an escape and hostage situation, where the inmates have taken over a few blocks.

Also, Robin could be great in it. Don't confuse the awful, terrible, soul destroying movie version of robin. The last few robins in the comics have been excellent, and properly used (for the most part)

If co-op is in, I hope it's optional because I've always preferred Batman working alone. Arkham Asyum's atmosphere works so well because Batman is on his own.

- Co-op could be great (especially 2p on the same screen). If you are both trying to complete seperate tasks but working towards the same goal and they keep the tension in there.

- Wouldn't like to see Robin included (I just can't think of him as being anything other than the camp crusader)

- Damn I think I am going to start the first one again!

Is two face that Dent bloke (sorry I've only seen the movies )? If so, then it would tie in with the ending of the first, where Batters jumps into his spaceship (like I said I know nothing about the comics ) because there was a call about Dent on the police radio.

I wasn't as big a fan of the first game as a lot of people but I think the tone of the game is the perfect foundation for a really interesting take on Catwoman.
I'll be yet another person keeping my eyes on this one.

That isn't graffiti, it's the logo for Gotham City Radio.
