1 vs. 100 to launch in the UK this Friday

Microsoft Points mean prizes.

1 vs. 100 is an Xbox 360 exclusive based on the quiz show of the same name. Players are selected to be The One, a member of The Mob or part of The Crowd, and can compete against other Xbox Live players to win prizes.

The game will be free to download and play, and live matches will take place at specially scheduled times. You'll get the chance to win Microsoft Points and Xbox Live Arcade games, if you're lucky.

For the full lowdown, read our recent hands-on preview.

Any word on plans for other european releases?
  • VandelayIndustries #2 3 years ago

Seen a bunch of my US friends playing this and I was wondering when we'd get it.
  • woodnotes #3 3 years ago

    Can't wait for this!
  • uglygamer #4 3 years ago

+1 if you are excited as me.
  • Monkey_Puncher #5 3 years ago

    Excellent!

It's been getting nothing but incredibly positive things said about it from folk over in the US.
  • jiveguy #6 3 years ago

Do they mean the proper UK or the "UK" that is used as a general statement for the UK and Ireland?
  • justice-ste #7 3 years ago

According to live this is only the Beta on friday, but I'm excited none the less :D
  • Stormflood #8 3 years ago

    Really looking forward to this...
  • DFawkes #9 3 years ago

Awesome! A quiz game that's free (assuming you're on Gold), with real prizes at certain times - how could that not be good? Looking especially forward to the prize matches, but the normal quiz should be quite good too.

Be interesting to see what level the questions are pitched at.

Q1: "What is a 'Juggernaut Bitch'?"
  • rashes #11 3 years ago

    @jiveguy

I 2nd that... a bit more detail would be nice.
  • DFawkes #12 3 years ago

Q2: "Are you a Chainsaw Noob? I've seen you on Gears of War, refusing to even try the Right Trigger, charging about, carving people in half. Don't lie bitch, real prizes at stake!"

I'd imagine the difficulty setting will be well pitched thanks to all the testing, though as I understand it the prize matches will be specialy prepared sets of 1 off questions, so they'll be honed to perfection, hopefully :)
  • Mayhem64 #13 3 years ago

N00b is nothing though, I've been chainsawed by people ranked in the 50s and higher on GoW2 :p

Q3: What was the most defining cultural significance of Jade Goody?
  • asphaltcowboy #14 3 years ago

    According to AceyBongos on Twitter:

"1 vs 100 coming to Xbox LIVE in the UK and ROI on July 10, France and Germany on July 12... more details coming soon."

Very much looking forward to playing this! \o/
  • Daymare #15 3 years ago

    I hope questions won't be too UK-specific..
  • ryohazuki1983 #16 3 years ago

@VandelayIndustries - You should have got one of your US friends to invite you. A fellow EG'er invited me to play the other night (i've got UK gold account). Suppose it doesn't matter now as it will be open to all on Friday!

  • Eraysor #21 3 years ago

  • Skoptsie #22 3 years ago

For the people who've seen the US beta in action, roughly how long does each 'show' take to run through?
  • LetsGo #23 3 years ago

hmmm. i wasnt trolling, go on YouTube and type in "1vs100 360" then look at a gameplay video.

You have a good 12 seconds before you need to pick an answer. Now, think of a question, go into google and type it in.

i.e. In what year did the battle of hastings start?

Type "wiki battle of hastings" and theres your answer. if you have google open it will take you less than five seconds.

Questions may not be that easy but thats an example, this game will live or die on how the questions are written.

And remember: people will always cheat if they can win real prizes.

Do you need Gold for this? I'm quite interested, but not willing to spend all that money.

They should have something in between Silver and Gold for online lites like me.
  • asphaltcowboy #26 3 years ago

LetsGo - You also get more points for answering faster, no? If you're answering right before the buzzer every time because you have to look it up, I don't think you're going to do that well...
  • LetsGo #27 3 years ago

asphaltcowboy really? i've not heared about that in any of the previews?

perhaps i've missed something, if so, sorry.
  • busboy33 #28 3 years ago

You don't have 12 seconds for a question. The text of the question appears for possibly 4 seconds (which you need to spend reading it), then each of the three answers pops up 1 second apart, then probably 3 seconds after that to answer. You've got maybe 6-7 seconds tops from reading the question to answering. You can type into google, run the search, read the answers, get back, and select the right answer in that time? Congrats -- you might get to buzz in and get a 1 point time bonus (out of 200). If you're not quick on the answer, you'll never make the points. You've got to answer correctly to get any points, but the race comes down to the bonus for speedy answers, and they calculate based on the milisecond.
Have fun with that lag switch -- the game counts the time against you and if it takes too long, the game drops you. Because you're the first person who thought of that. But thanks for letting everybody know you game with a lag switch.
The questions at least in the US version are all of the "either you know it or you don't" variety: "The Saturn Car brand was sold to what European company?", "The Pythagorem Theorem relates to what shape?", "According to Heinz, what takes 2.8 seconds to pour?", "What is the 24th letter of the alphabet?", things like that. You can play with 4 people in your "group" (4 avatars together on the screen), but you can still run partychat so you can have 8 people giving answers.
My 2 cents . . . the game is embarassingly fun. Everybody I know that has tried it has become hooked. "Hardcore" gamers all go "well, I'll try it out, its free after all, nothing else to do tonight . . . " then they are playing night after night. Bonus points if you've got a non-gamer in the house -- they LOVE this. MS really hit on a winner with this Primetime Channel setup. Even without prizes in the Beta, it's great.

    FIIIIIIIIIIINALLY!
  • mattigan #30 3 years ago

They really need to market this, properly, on TV etc...
  • smelly #31 3 years ago

I dont play games at scheduled times, i have a life.

this is no use to me.

Besides - i presume gold membership only?
  • smelly #32 3 years ago

I can see why they made it to stop people using lag switches.. but what if i genuinely have a drop of connection (happens all the time with my shitty provider)
  • Vortex808 #33 3 years ago

I'll see if i can get the missus hooked on this- might save some grief the next time i mention firing the xbox up!
  • TruSmiles #34 3 years ago

This sounds like a lot of fun and a great idea. I wonder if Sony will ever have an online version of Buzz that does something similar with the buzzes, as that would be pretty awesome too.
  • busboy33 #35 3 years ago

    @smelly:

"I dont play games at scheduled times, i have a life."

Good for you having a life, and go fu@k yourself for the implication that people that play this don't.

They run a Live game (with a host) 1 or 2 nights a week (usually Friday and Saturday) for two hours. After the main game, they usually have an "Extended Play" round that last 30 minutes -- no host, no Mob or One . . . just everybody trying to answer questions. 3 or 4 other days of the week they run 5-7 Extended Play rounds, so unless your busy schedule accounts for every evening of every day of the week, then you have time. If your life really does demand your utter and constant attention . . . wel, then I respectfully disagree and suggest you might want to consider the possibility that you actually DON'T have a life.

    "i presume gold membership only?"
At the moment, yes. I wouldn't be suprised if they didn't open it up to Silvers somehow later on, but for now Gold Only (although in the US Beta they had some "Silver Permitted" weekends)

"but what if i genuinely have a drop of connection?"
Then you are out. You can get back in, but the game keeps going so you have to jump in wherever it is. If you lag out on question 4, and don't get back in until question 7, then you missed 3 questions.

Busboy tells it like it is.
    +1 to you sir!

(No disrespect to anyone else intended)
  • miiiguel #37 3 years ago

Good for you fellow english video-gamers. Do share if it's actually good, when the time comes.
  • ronuds #38 3 years ago

I concur with the "using google isn't going to help you much" camp. There are others who will probably get all the questions right AND do so in a minimal amount of time. You'll get slaughtered if you're taking a bunch of time to look up answers on google - and I don't even know if there's enough time anyway.

    @ busboy - +2!

I think what smelly meant to say was either:
    1. I don't have a 360 and am a bitter fanboy
    or
    2. I can't afford Gold :p
  • DjFlex52 #39 3 years ago

Good for you fellow english video-gamers. Do share if it's actually good, when the time comes.

    @miiiguel

As an american video-gamer, I can vouch that as busboy33 said...it's embarrassing fun :)

The four things that MS implemented in the game that will draw you in...
    1. There are easy, medium and hard questions mixed throughout so there are questions for everyone.
    2. Even if you're not "The One" or "The Hundred" but just a part of the mob (sometimes there were 100,000 people playing), you are specifically competing against 3 other players which you can also invite to play and chat with while playing the game.
    3. MS finally have a venue for the useless avatars and it adds to the game.
    4. The game shows your stats.

Also, There are 2-hour sessions and 1/2 hour sessions in the beta. have to say the game is even more fun with family and friends at home screaming out answers while you hit the answer buttons. 4 heads are smarter than one but you only have about 6-7 seconds to answer.

My only gripes are the advert pauses and because it's a beta....the occassional dropouts :(
  • Mayhem64 #40 3 years ago

Anyone submitted any questions? The 360 page for the game allows it...
